Josh Howard (1980)
Howard was a standout at Wake Forest University, earning him the 29th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. That proved to be a fruitful pick for the Dallas Mavericks, with Howard spending his first seven seasons with the Mavs. He immediately became a defensive threat right out of the gates, finishing 18th in Defensive Player of the Year voting twice through his first four seasons.
That fourth year was Howard’s best, making his one and only All-Star appearance. He followed that up with a career-high 19.9 points per game in 2008, but only played two more years in Dallas. Howard joined the Washington Wizards in 2010 and closed his career with one-year stints in Utah and Minnesota. He officially retired in 2013 with the T’Wolves, averaging 14.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals throughout his 10-year career.
Chris Kaman (1982)
This big man was a fan favorite throughout his career, earning the nickname “The Caveman.” That endearing nickname was due to his hairstyle, massive size and last name, with Kaman being selected sixth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. Kaman spent his first eight years with LA, establishing himself as their starting center in his rookie year.
The big man really broke out in his third season, averaging 11.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. His all-around best year followed two seasons later, with Kaman averaging 15.7 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 2008. He made his sole All-Star appearance two years later in 2010 when he averaged a career-high 18.5 points per game. Kaman only played one more season with the Clippers before suiting up for the Lakers, Mavericks, Hornets and Trail Blazers across his final six seasons. He officially retired in 2016, averaging 11.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks throughout his career.
