James Silas (1949)
Silas split time between the ABA and NBA, carving out a solid 10-year career. He hit the ground running for the Dallas Chaparrals in his debut season, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting. He made his first of two All-Star appearances in his third season, finishing second in MVP voting in his fourth year. That was his final season in the ABA before moving to the San Antonio Spurs in 1976. Silas didn’t get much playing time early in his NBA career, but he averaged 17.7 points per game in back-to-back seasons in 1979 and 1980. He played his final year with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1982 before officially retiring in 1983. Silas averaged 16.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.0 steals throughout his 10-year career.
