Below is the most notable NBA player born on April 9.
Paul Arizin (1928)
Arizin played 10 seasons in the NBA, carving out an incredible Hall of Fame career. He was the third overall pick in the 1950 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia Warriors, spending all 10 seasons with the organization. He was a stud immediately, winning the Rookie of the Year in an All-Star campaign. Arizin followed that up with an All-NBA First-Team selection in his second season, leading the league in points scored, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, and minutes played.
Everything was put on hold when he served in the military for two years after that, but Arizin returned in 1954-55. He made yet another All-Star appearance that season and accomplished that goal in all 10 years in the NBA. He led the league in scoring again in 1956-57 and received MVP votes in five different years. Most notably, Arizin helped the 1956 Warriors win a title. He retired in 1962, averaging 22.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists throughout his career. All of that earned Arizin a Hall-of-Fame induction in 1978, and he’s regarded as one of the greatest Warriors of all time.
