
Kevin Garnett is the Timberwolves’ all-time leader in steals.
Established for the 1989, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made 12 playoff appearances in franchise history, and are still looking for their first championship. Let’s highlight their top five all-time steals leaders.
1. Kevin Garnett, 1,314 Steals
The Timberwolves selected Garnett with the fifth pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He never missed more than six games in any of his seasons with the franchise. He made 10 All-Star teams as a member of the Timberwolves and won the 2003-04 MVP Award. Although he was never named the Defensive Player of the Year in Minnesota, he did win the award with the Celtics in the 2007-08 season. At one point, Garnett had a streak of three straight seasons in which he averaged at least 1.5 steals per game. Across 970 career games with the Timberwolves, Garnett averaged 1.4 steals.
2. Ricky Rubio, 845 Steals
Rubio was selected with the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Timberwolves. He did not appear in an NBA game until the 2011-12 season. He finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting that year, averaging 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Rubio continued to rack up steals in bunches, averaging at least 2.1 steals in four of his first five seasons. Rubio appeared in 421 career games for the Timberwolves, averaging 2.0 steals along the way.
3. Anthony Edwards, 504 Steals
Anthony Edwards has racked up steals since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2019, collecting at least 1.1 STL per game in each season of his career. His high came in 2023, when he snagged 1.6 STL per game, which was good for sixth in the NBA.
4. Corey Brewer, 502 Steals
The Timberwolves selected Brewer with the seventh pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He made his biggest impact in terms of steals when he averaged 2.4 of them per game during the 2009-10 season. Brewer spent 13 seasons in the NBA and played for a total of eight teams. He spent his most time with the Timberwolves, averaging 1.5 steals across 337 games for the franchise.
5. Karl-Anthony Towns, 452 Steals
The Timberwolves selected Towns with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He made his presence felt right away, averaging 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 0.7 steals and won the Rookie of the Year award in 2016. He made four All-Star teams as a member of the Timberwolves and was named All-NBA Third Team twice. In total, he averaged 0.8 steals with the Timberwolves. He worked his way into fourth place on this list as he appeared in 573 games for the franchise.
