The Brooklyn Nets have had a number of talented rebounders play for them over their history. Let’s dig into the best board men in Nets history with a look at the top five single season rebounding efforts.
Jayson Williams – 1997-98, 13.6 RPG
Williams was a prolific rebounder during his playing career who was entering his peak during the 1998 season. He not only set the franchise record in rebounds per game with 13.6, but he also led the league in offensive rebounds per game (6.8) and averaged a double-double for the season with 12.9 PPG. Williams also made his lone All-Star appearance in the 1998 season.
Buck Williams – 1982-83, 12.5 RPG
Williams is arguably the best rebounder in Nets history in terms of overall body of work. He is responsible for seven of the top 10 rebounding seasons for the Nets and reached with 12.5 RP mark for the first time in 1983. That was just his second season in the league, and Williams was already one of the top rebounders. He garnered MVP votes that season, earned an All-Star nod and was voted Second Team All-NBA.
Buck Williams – 1986-87, 12.5 RPG
Williams continued to dominate the glass in 1987 and finished third in the NBA in rebounds per game with 12.5. He trailed two of the game’s all-time great boardsmen in Charles Barkley (14.6) and Charles Oakley (13.1). During the 1987 season, Williams recorded a personal-best 27 rebounds in a four-overtime marathon against the Warriors.
Buck Williams – 1983-84, 12.3 RPG
Williams continued to bud as one of the league’s premier rebounders in his third season. He made it three straight years out of the gate with at least 12.0 rebounds per game with his impressive 1984 campaign. Williams was getting it done on both ends of the floor with 8.0 defensive rebounds and 4.4 offensive rebounds per game. Only Moses Malone (13.4) averaged more rebounds per game that season.
Buck Williams – 1981-82, 12.3 RPG
Williams’ rookie year put him on the radar as one of the best rebounders in the NBA. He pulled down 12.3 rebounds per game to begin a six-year run averaging at least 12.0 RPG. In addition to holding down the glass, Williams averaged 15.5 points and 1.0 blocks per game and ultimately won Rookie of the Year.
