Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet will miss significant time after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee, according to multiple reports.
The injury, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, suffered during an offseason workout in the Bahamas, would strip the Rockets of a steadying presence at the point. VanVleet joined Houston two seasons ago in free agency, and finished last season averaging 14.1 points (shooting 34.5% from 3 on 7.7 attempts) and 5.6 assists while providing his usual dogged effort on defense.
Yahoo National NBA Reporter Kelly Iko reported that VanVleet is scheduled for surgery this week.
