Alvin Robertson (1962)

Robertson was one of the best defenders throughout his decade in the NBA. Robertson was selected seventh overall in the 1984 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. He got acclimated to the NBA in a reserve role through his rookie campaign but became a star in his sophomore season. In that sophomore year, Robertson won Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player while finishing 13th in MVP voting. Robertson averaged 17 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.7 steals that year, finishing Second-Team All-NBA as well. Those 3.7 steals were a league-leading total, and Robertson went on to do that three times throughout his career.

After that special 1986 season, Robertson made two more All-Star appearances while finishing top 5 in Defensive Player of the Year voting five times. He was also a six-time All-Defensive Team member, with Robertson owning the NBA record with 2.7 steals per game throughout his career. He later suited up for the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors, averaging 14 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game in his career.
