Karl Malone (1963)
Malone is on a short list as one of the best bigs and most productive players of all time. This big man was selected 13th overall in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz and spent the next 18 seasons with that organization. Malone went on to become the greatest player in franchise history, starting by finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting in his debut campaign. He went on to make 14 All-Star appearances, while finishing Top 10 in MVP voting 14 times as well.
Malone took down MVP honors in 1997 and 1999, and finished second in 1998. The big man added 14 All-NBA and four All-Defensive teams to his resume, in addition to two All-Star MVPs as well. The surefire Hall of Famer averaged 25 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks throughout his 19-year career. Malone is third all-time in scoring and eighth in total rebounds.
Walt Bellamy (1939)
Bellamy is our second Hall of Famer born on July 24. He was the top pick in the 1961 NBA Draft by the Chicago Packers. He took down Rookie of the Year and made four straight All-Star appearances in his first four seasons. That rookie campaign is considered one of the greatest in NBA history as he averaged 31.6 points and 19 rebounds per game. Bellamy also received MVP votes in 1963, 1970 and 1972.
After his initial run with Chicago, Bellamy had stints with Baltimore, New York, Detroit, Atlanta and New Orleans. The big man averaged 20.1 points and 13.7 rebounds throughout his 14-year career, earning him a Hall of Fame induction in 1993.
