Trae Young reached 11,000 career points in the matchup against Chicago.
Trailing by 21 points in the fourth quarter, the Atlanta Hawks staged one of the biggest comebacks in recent NBA history. The Hawks used a historic final period to stun the Chicago Bulls 141-133.
The Hawks outscored the Bulls 50-25 and only committed one turnover in the final period. According to the Hawks’ official X account, they are the first team to accomplish this feat since the 1997-98 season.
The key moment in the comeback came with 5:31 remaining in the fourth quarter when a bucket from Jevon Carter gave the Bulls a 16-point lead (126-110). It seemed Chicago was on its way to an easy win, but the Hawks had other plans. Atlanta went on a 20-0 scoring barrage, flipping a 16-point deficit into a four-point lead, and Chicago didn’t score again until the 1:47 mark in the fourth quarter. During that 20-0 run, Trae Young had 10 points and two assists.
The star floor general finished with 27 points and 13 assists, but perhaps more impressive was that he scored 16 of those 27 points in the final frame. Jalen Johnson led the Hawks with 30 points and 15 rebounds and De’Andre Hunter poured in 25 points off the bench.
If we dig deeper into the numbers, the Hawks’ offensive rating in Thursday’s win was 133.0. This included a 166.0 rating in the second half and an elite — and possibly unrepeatable — 185.2 rating in the final 12 minutes. No defense in the league can contain that kind of efficiency.
