Andy Phillip (1922)

Known as ‘Handy Andy’, Philip put together a Hall of Fame career marked by consistency and impact. He played for the Chicago Stags of the BAA in 1948, and he stayed with them when they joined the NBA two years later. Things really took off when he joined the Philadelphia Warriors in 1950-51, making his first of five consecutive All-Star appearances.

Phillip was one of the best passers in the game during that era, leading the league in assists three times. He closed his career by spending four seasons with the Fort Wayne Pistons and then two seasons in Boston, winning a championship with the Celtics in 1957. All of that earned Phillip a Hall of Fame induction in 1961, averaging 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists throughout his 11-year career.
