After a 15-year career in the NBA, Chris Webber headlines our March 1 birthday celebrations.
With over 5,000 players in NBA history, at least one player was born on every day of the calendar year – including four Leap Day ballers. Our day-by-day breakdown of the players born on each day of the year continues.
Below is the most notable NBA player born on March 1.
Chris Webber (1973)
“C-Webb” had an amazing college career at Michigan that earned him the distinction of being the first pick of the 1993 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. A draft day trade for Penny Hardaway sent him to the Golden State Warriors, with Webber taking down Rookie of the Year in his debut season. The following year, he was traded again, this time to the Washington Bullets. He made his first All-Star appearance as a Bullet in 1996-97, but really became a superstar when he was traded to the Sacramento Kings in 1998.
Webber made four All-Star appearances in his five seasons with the Kings, finishing Top-10 in MVP voting in all five of those. He closed his career by playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors before retiring in 2008. The big man averaged 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks throughout his 15-year career. All of that earned Webber a Hall-of-Fame induction in 2021.
