Dirk Nowitzki (1978)
Nowitzki is undoubtedly the best player to come out of Germany, and he has a case as the greatest player from Europe in NBA history. That says a lot about how special Dirk was, being selected ninth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft. He was perceived as an outside-the-box draft pick by the Dallas Mavericks at the time, but Nowitzki spent his whole 21-year career in Dallas. After a slow start to his career, Nowitzki finished Third-Team All-NBA in his third season, marking his first of 12 straight seasons with at least 20 points per game. The stardom really kicked in when he finished eighth in MVP voting in 2002, which was his first of 14 All-Star appearances.
He finished Top 12 in MVP voting in each of the next 11 seasons, taking down that award in 2007. All of that culminated in an incredible Finals run in 2011, with Dirk winning Finals MVP in their 2011 championship run. Nowitzki is the franchise leader in games played, minutes, field goals, three-pointers made, points scored, rebounds and blocks. All of that earned the big man a Hall of Fame induction in 2023, and he’s the greatest Mav of all time. Nowitzki averaged 20.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2,4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks throughout his 21-year career.
Jordan Poole (1999)
Poole is a player who can provide instant offense on any given night. After a fantastic college career at Michigan University, Poole was selected 28th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. He spent his first four seasons in Golden State, establishing himself as one of the best bench players in the NBA. He actually led the league with a 93 percent mark from the free-throw line in 2022. Poole averaged 20.4 points and 4.5 assists in his final year with the Warriors, which is why the Washington Wizards acquired him the following year. They immediately made him their starting point guard, with Poole averaging a career-high 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 2025.
