Luka and the gang show out versus Minnesota with a sharp offensive performance.
Friday’s headlines:
- Amazon Prime Video housed two marquee matchups, with the Knicks beating the Celtics in a repeat of last year’s Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, and Luka Dončić popping for his biggest performance yet as a Laker.
- Giannis Antetokounmpo continues dominating as the Bucks move to 2-0.
- Victor Wembanyama and Zion Williamson exchange big plays in an overtime duel.
Top Performers🏆🏆🏆
1. Luka Dončić — 49 (14-23 FG, 16-19 FT), 11 rebounds, eight assists
2. Victor Wembanyama — 29 points (13-23 FG), 11 rebounds, two assists, nine blocks
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo — 31 points (11-14 FG), 20 rebounds, seven assists
4. Kevin Durant — 37 points (9-18 FG, 16-18 FT), three rebounds, three steals
5. Stephen Curry — 35 points (12-22 FG), six rebounds, three assists
Historic start to the season for Luka Dončić
The major storyline is Luka Dončić guiding the Lakers to a dominant win over a top-tier foe in the Western Conference, dispatching Minnesota by a final margin of 128-110. However, the Slovenian’s individual excellence is to be marveled at:
49 points (14-23 FG, 16-19 FT), 11 rebounds, eight assists, and only three turnovers.
He joins Anthony Davis, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to start a season with back-to-back 40-point games. Dončić is in the zone, connecting on 27 of 34 two-point attempts thus far. He now holds the all-time NBA record for most points scored in the first two games, passing Jerry West’s 1969-70 opening stretch.

Clippers in midseason form✅
Kawhi Leonard (27 points, 11-21 FG, five rebounds, five assists) and James Harden (30 points, 8-12 FG, 9-9 FT, seven rebounds, seven assists) led all scorers during the Clippers 129-102 victory over the Suns.
Los Angeles burying 55.2% of 29 3PA will be hard to replicate, but 32 assists on 45 buckets a team points to the fact that this is largely the same team that pushed Denver to seven games in last year’s playoffs.
New addition John Collins (10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals) finished as a plus-23 in the box score. Bradley Beal (six points, 2-4 FG) was quiet in 20 minutes of action.

Trail Blazers play spoilers, win 139-119
A crisp 35 points (12-22 FG, 7-14 3PM) from Stephen Curry was overshadowed by a balanced scoring attack featuring eight Portland players with double-digit scoring en route to a 20-point win over Golden State.
The Trail Blazers posted an elite 53.8/47.1/92.0 shooting slash a team, raining in 16 of 34 3PA. Deni Avdija led the way with 26 points (11-18 FG), while Jrue Holiday posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists.
Golden State committed 25 turnovers Friday — which represented the second half of a back-to-back set following Thursday’s win over Denver.
Rookie Will Richard is beginning to profile as subtle storyline for the Warriors, logging 24 minutes of action Friday after posting six points, five rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes Thursday. Richard won the NCAA national championship with Florida last season. Portland’s rookie Hansen Yang notched his first NBA bucket Friday.

Kings’ guards boom, Sabonis steps up late
Light the Beam, Sacramento.
In a back-and-forth affair that featured 11 lead changes and 12 ties, the Kings successfully defend homecourt with a 105-104 win over Utah.
Lauri Markkanen finished with a game-high 33 points (12-23 FG), but the game-securing rebound slipped between he and Walker Kessler, leading to what was ultimately the game-winning bucket by Domantas Sabonis.
Sabonis finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds while dealing with the tender hamstring that caused him to miss Sacramento’s opener. Throughout Friday’s contest, it was Zach LaVine (31 points, 10-18 FG) and Malik Monk (20 points, 7-14 FG) who led the offense.
DeMar DeRozan finished with a team-high six assists but only seven points (3-9 FG). Dennis Schröder delivered a scoring punch in the form of 17 points (8-16 FG) and three assists.
A deep and versatile Kings’ backcourt also features Russell Westbrook and Keon Ellis.

Rookie Tre Johnson was Washington’s second leading scorer with 17 points (7-13 FG) as the next generation begins to take shape out of Washington’s blend of rookies and vets.
Dallas rolled with Cooper Flagg (18 points, 6-14 FG) as the team’s primary point guard, leading to mixed results with six assists and five turnovers. Anthony Davis boomed for 27 points (9-19 FG 9-12 FG), 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 38 minutes.

Reaves is also up to 10 assists, catalyzing a 40-point third quarter for the Lakers — who enter the fourth with their largest lead of the night. Los Angeles has rained in 45.8% of 24 3PA thus far while only committing six turnovers.

Jalen Brunson delivered 31 points (10-20 FG, 8-9 FT), while a 26-point, 13-rebound double-double from Karl-Anthony Towns and 14 rebounds (six offensive rebounds) from Josh Hart fueled a 105-95 victory over the Celtics on Friday.
Jaylen Brown led Boston with 23 points (9-18 FG), but seven turnovers stands out as a damaging figure on a night when the Celtics only had 15 turnovers as a team. The Knicks capitalized better in that regard, notching 23 points off turnovers compared to Boston’s 16.

Wembanyama dominates but fouls out, Spurs survive
Victor Wembanyama’s 29-point (13-23 FG), 11-rebound double-double featuring nine blocks was cut short by foul trouble on a night when New Orleans came back to force overtime, but ultimately fell short in a 120-116 loss to San Antonio.
Wembanyama’s production was headlined by alley-oops, but featured everything from inverted pick-and-roll with Luke Kornet to effortless post-ups versus an undersized New Orleans frontcourt.
Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy stuffed the stat sheet, the former finishing with 27 points (8-18 FG), 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, while the latter had 24 points (8-19 FG), 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

While Milwaukee entered the season with point-Giannis being the central pillar of the offense, strong contributions from Cole Anthony (23 points, seven assists) and Ryan Rollins (13 points, five rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block) hint at the underlying sidekicks from Friday’s 122-116 victory over the Raptors.
Giannis Antetokounmpo posted 31 points (11-14 FG), 20 rebounds and seven assists following up a 37-point, 14-rebound double-double in Milwaukee’s season-opening win over Washington.
The Raptors held their final lead at the 9:30 mark of the fourth quarter, while having the game tied at 107 with just 4:20. They forced 18 turnovers, but only cashed in 16 points off those opportunities.

Cleveland survives Brooklyn comeback
In a game that Cleveland led wire-to-wire with a biggest lead of 25 at one point, Brooklyn cut the deficit to one with 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Key events that follow include an Evan Mobley offensive rebound and dump off to Jarrett Allen, a Jarrett Allen strip of Nicolas Claxton into Donovan Mitchell free throws, and both sides running out of gas after a booming night.
Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 35 points (10-15 FG, 9-12 FT), although he trailed tightly by Cam Thomas’s 33 points (12-23 FG) as well as 31 points from Michael Porter Jr. (13-22 FG).
Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill each tacked on 22 points for Cleveland. Second-year swingman Jaylon Tyson started and put forth a solid two-way effort while Darius Garland (toe) remains unavailable.

Trae Young seals the deal in Hawks win
In a tight game separated only by a big Orlando run in the second quarter, Atlanta responded with a 33-21 fourth quarter advantage to emerge with a 111-107 victory on the road.
Jalen Suggs (11 points, 4-5 FG) tied the game at 107 off a tough left-handed driving layup with under a minute remaining. Trae Young proceeded to respond immediately, drawing a foul on Wendell Carter Jr. and sinking both free throws.
Stifling defense and a key deflection by Dyson Daniels on Desmond Bane prevented Bane from getting a shot off, leading to low-percentage Paolo Banchero three-point miss on what was ultimately Orlando’s final possession.
Ice Trae iced the game with two more made free throws, as the Hawks earn the W on a night when both teams logged 28% shooting from beyond the arc.
Young’s 25 points (7-18 FG, 10-12 FT) led Atlanta, while Franz Wagner’s 27 points (10-17 FG) represented the game-high scoring total. Orlando was plagued by 21 turnovers in the defeat.
