Recap: OG Anunoby's tip completes largest comeback in NBA Finals history

OG Anunoby tipped in a game-winning basket for the New York Knicks, completing the largest comeback in NBA Finals history and taking Game 4.

The New York Knicks came back from 29 down to win Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals 107-106, led by Jalen Brunson (36 pts) and OG Anunoby (33 pts). Knicks lead the series, 3-1.

‘The Knicks pull off the miracle comeback’

In the greatest rally in NBA Finals history, the Knicks take Game 4 107-106, storming back from 29 points down to delight a roaring crowd at Madison Square Garden.

“Just do whatever it takes to win,” said OG Anunoby (33 pts, 7 3PM), as the crowd chanted his name. “We’re resilient. We never give up.”

Jalen Brunson (36 pts, 7 ast) led the Knicks in scoring, while Victor Wembanyama (24 pts, 13 reb) was the top man for the Spurs.

San Antonio started the game hot, but ended up shooting 41.9% for the game, while the Knicks raised their percentage to 46.2%.

“Pure joy here at Madison Square Garden for these long-suffering fans,” said ESPN’s Mike Breen. “Jalen Brunson started to erupt; the Knicks’ defense started to suffocate. The NBA Finals have never seen a comeback like this.”

This is the second NBA Finals to have two games decided by a single point (1975).

107-106 Knicks with 1.2 seconds remaining, as OG Anunoby (33 pts) tips in a miss from Jalen Brunson to give New York the advantage.

Anunoby inbounded the ball. Two defenders doubled Brunson, leaving him free to streak to the rim for the putback.

“Bedlam here at the Garden!” ESPN’s Mike Breen yelled. “They can’t believe it!”

Frantic moments in the Garden

Knicks ball with 5.7 seconds to go. De’Aaron Fox grabbed the ball in a full sprint with under 10 seconds to go, attempting a layup that was swatted by OG Anunoby to give the Knicks the rock.

Game 4 of the NBA Finals is on the line.

Two free throws from Stephon Castle (13 pts) gives the Spurs a 106-105 lead with 30 seconds to go.

He slipped in from the weak side to rebound a miss from De’Aaron Fox, drawing a foul on the putback attempt. Castle’s poise and leaping ability are consistent game-changers for the Spurs.

97-88 Spurs with 6:24 remaining in the contest, as five points from Karl-Anthony Towns (13 pts) and a 3-pointer from OG Anunoby (28 pts) cut the lead to nine.

“The Knicks have fought hard,” said ESPN’s Mike Breen.

‘The Knicks are fighting for dear life’

95-80 Spurs with 8:43 to go in the contest, as the Knicks try to rally on their home floor.

Mikal Bridges (7 pts) just put in a fast-break layup off a feed from Josh Hart (6 ast), prompting a San Antonio timeout.

Victor Wembanyama (22 pts) and Dylan Harper (21 pts) have all five points for the Spurs so far in the period. They’re both under 23 years old.

For reference, Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway were both 23 in the 1995 NBA Finals.

Harper isn’t Penny, who was First Team All-NBA in 1995, at this point. But he and Wemby might be a truly dominant duo in the very near future.

Spurs up 90-75 after 3Q

The Knicks were down by as many as 29, but trimmed it to 15 at the end of the quarter, giving the Madison Square Garden faithful some life as we head into the fourth.

Jalen Brunson (27 pts on 9-for-19 shooting) and OG Anunoby (25 pts on 7-for-12 shooting) are the only two Knicks in double figures, while Victor Wembanyama (19 pts, 9 reb), Dylan Harper (19 pts on 7-for-10 shooting) and Devin Vassell (18 pts, 5-for-7 3PM) are leading the Spurs’ offense.

San Antonio still has a 26-4 advantage in bench points, which has been huge tonight.

OG Anunoby (25 pts, 5 3PM) with a stepback 3-pointer off a handoff from Mitchell Robinson. Not a typical shot for the Knicks’ wing, but he’s become a featured offensive player for this squad for good reason.

Dylan Harper (19 pts) just hit a wicked turnaround jumper, spinning away from OG Anunoby on the baseline and totally shaking the Kia All-Defensive Second Team member.

The rookie is consistently a problem for opponents. He’s quick, coordinated and deceptively strong. We’ll likely be seeing him in the Spurs’ backcourt for years to come.

Knicks have it under 20

The Garden’s roaring again, as a high-arcing OG Anunoby (22 pts) 3-pointer slips over Victor Wembanyama’s fingertips and through the net.

The Knicks came back from 22 down with 7:40 to go in the fourth quarter in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cavaliers, so they’re no strangers to rallying from big deficits. The ball is starting to hop again for them.

Victor Wembanyama picks up his third flagrant foul of the Playoffs, raising his elbow and clipping Karl-Anthony Towns’ jaw while jostling on the perimeter. With a fourth, he’d be suspended for a game.

The Spurs’ athleticism and focus have overwhelmed the Knicks so far, controlling the contest on both ends in Madison Square Garden.

Victor Wembanyama (16 pts, 6 reb) and Dylan Harper (15 pts, 2 reb, 3 ast) have led a dominant San Antonio offense, while Jalen Brunson (19 pts on 6-for-14 shooting) stepped up in the second quarter to give New York some fight.

The Spurs have a 22-2 lead in bench points and 14-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Knicks still haven’t recovered from Karl-Anthony Towns’ foul trouble. They’ve felt off balance since, and go into the half searching for momentum.

The crowd is trying to will New York back into the contest, as Jalen Brunson (17 pts) puts in his 13th point of the quarter.

But the Spurs are still up 71-47 with 1:35 to go in the half.

They’re 7-for-14 (50%) from 3-point range in this quarter and 14-for-26 (53.8%) on the game.

The largest comeback in Finals history is 24, set by the Celtics, who stormed back to defeat the Lakers in Game 4 in 2008. Can the Knicks find their footing here?

Knicks looking for some fire

Karl-Anthony Towns (6 pts, 2 reb) converts an and-one layup, yelling with passion at the call, followed by four straight points from Jalen Brunson (8 pts) as the Knicks seek to get back into the game.

But the Spurs’ lead is only growing — 59-34 with 7:49 to go in the quarter. Their defense has been suffocating and their shooting elite so far.

San Antonio came out red-hot to jump out with a dominant first quarter in Madison Square Garden.

Victor Wembanyama (13 pts, 3 reb) and Devin Vassell (12 pts, 3-for-3 3PM) both made an impact in the first, while OG Anunoby (7 pts) paced the Knicks.

Karl-Anthony Towns picking up two quick fouls threw New York into disarray, while Jalen Brunson (4 pts, 0-for-3 shooting) can’t find room to maneuver against a tough Spurs defense.

The former No. 9 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is a physical, hard-working player — we’ll see if he can make an impact.

The Spurs are hot tonight, racing out to a 30-17 lead with 4:00 to go in the quarter.

They’re shooting 68.8% from the field, including 6-for-8 (75%) from 3-point range, leading Mike Brown to explore his bench options, which have been big for the Knicks this season.

Ariel Hukporti, the second-year center out of Germany, got his first minute of the series, but was quickly sent back to the bench after picking up a foul to get Mitchell Robinson back in the contest.

No Miles McBride so far — Landry Shamet and Jose Alvarado are the first two guards off the Knicks bench.

Watch De’Aaron Fox for the Spurs — his clutch shot at the end of Game 3 could be a harbinger of things to come. The Spurs were unable to close out Games 1 and 2 late — the 2023 Kia Clutch Player of the Year showing up would be a huge swing factor.

Stephon Castle stepped up with 23 points in Game 3 — the Spurs are at their best when he’s efficient and productive, giving Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie shots to fire away from deep with confidence.

Victor Wembanyama is, once again, in the biggest game of his career. He may not be Trae Young, but a big game could make him an outsized figure in the imaginations of Knicks fans for years to come.

On the other side, keep an eye on Mikal Bridges — he had just two points in Game 3 after 20 in Game 2 — and Karl-Anthony Towns, who has taken only six shots in the fourth quarter so far in this series. If the Knicks are looking for an outlet late, watch to see if they look his way.

Jalen Brunson has been clutch, tough and relentless in this series — his mentality is special. But he can struggle when the rest of the team bogs down. OG Anunoby has been a great offensive player in this run, shooting 57 / 47.4 / 85.7 from the field, consistently lending a hand.
