Nikola Jokić’s 2024-25 campaign is the most recent in the top five for single season assists.
The Nuggets have been home to some great facilitators throughout their 59 seasons in the NBA, from Mark Jackson and Nick Van Exel in the 1990s and early 2000s to Nikola Jokić over the past decade. We’ll break down which hoopers have had the best assists per game seasons in franchise history.
Mark Jackson – 1997, 12.3 APG
Jackson enjoyed a 17-year career as one of the best table-setters in the league between 1987 and 2004. He suited up for seven different teams during his playing days, and he holds down the top spot in Denver’s history despite appearing in just 52 games in the 1996-97 campaign. Jackson handed out 12.3 assists per game for the Nuggets, adding 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals, but a midseason trade to the Indiana Pacers ended his tenure in the Mile High City. The Brooklyn, New York native saw his APG numbers dip to 9.8 over the final 30 contests, giving Jackson a career-best and league-leading 11.4 apg that year.
Michael Adams – 1991, 10.5 APG
Adams spent four of his 11 years as a pro with the Nuggets, from 1987 to 1991. In his final campaign in Denver, the 5-foot-10 guard exploded with averages of 26.5 points and 10.5 assists, figures that represented career-bests by a wide margin. Adams tallied 38 double-doubles and the lone triple-double of his career, including outings where he produced his single game career high in points (54) and assists (19).
Nikola Jokić – 2025, 10.2 APG
Over the past decade, Jokić has cemented himself as not only one of the greatest players in Denver’s franchise history, but in the NBA as a whole. In 2024-25, the three-time MVP averaged a monster triple-double, posting 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists across 70 games. ‘Joker’ earned All-Star and All-NBA honors for the seventh consecutive season while finishing second in the MVP race and Clutch Player of the Year award. Jokić compiled 59 double-doubles and 34 triple-doubles, dishing out 15 or more dimes in ten outings, which included a career-high 22 assists.
Nikola Jokić – 2023, 9.8 APG
In 2022-23, Jokić was a force to be reckoned with throughout the regular and postseason, as he led the Nuggets to their first NBA championship in franchise history while earning Finals MVP. Coming off back-to-back league MVP honors, the Serbian center put up 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 9.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 69 appearances. He recorded 58 double-doubles and 29 triple-doubles and had 38 games with at least ten helpers.
Ty Lawson – 2015, 9.6 APG
The 18th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Nuggets, Lawson was known for his quick bursts of speed and court vision. He spent six productive seasons in the Mile High City, from 2009 to 2015, putting up a career-high 9.6 apg to go along with 15.2 ppg in his final year there. Over 75 contests, Lawson tallied 28 double-doubles, including a career-high 18 assists, and posted 36 outings with ten or more dimes. In 416 total games with Denver, he averaged 14.2 points, 6.6 assists and 1.2 steals a night.
