Positioned for key role at center

The Lakers' depth at center behind Kessler appears to be razor-thin, including veteran Kevon Looney as his primary backup, so Los Angeles could lean on Kessler during his debut season in Los Angeles. He's slotting in as a distant tertiary scoring option behind Doncic and Austin Reaves, though the prospect of being the top lob threat for the dynamic backcourt duo bodes well for his efficiency; Deandre Ayton shot a career-high 67.1 percent from the field in that role last season. Kessler also seemed to be adding a three-point shot to his arsenal before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery last year, averaging 1.2 threes to go with a career-high 3.0 assists per game over his five appearances in Utah, so he looks to have plenty of nine-category fantasy upside if he's able to shoot a reasonable percentage from the foul line.

Mamukelashvili tied for the team lead in boards Monday. The Lakers have a massive void to fill in their starting lineup following the departure of LeBron James, but Mamukelashvili may have to settle for a reserve role behind Jake LaRavia to begin the year. Mamukelashvili averaged a career-high 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game during the 2025-26 regular season for Toronto.

Strong line for Georgia

Mamukelashvili delivered an impressive all-around performance without committing a turnover, continuing a productive offseason ahead of his first campaign with the Lakers. The 27-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists during the regular season for Toronto before signing with Los Angeles in July. Walker Kessler is projected to handle most of the minutes at center, but Mamukelashvili's shooting and playmaking offer a different skill set and could earn him minutes at both frontcourt spots.
