In one possession, Russell Westbrook passed a couple of NBA legends Friday night in the Denver Nuggets’ 129-93 victory over the Utah Jazz, moving past Oscar Robertson for No. 8 all time in assists and Kobe Bryant for No. 16 all time in steals.
With 10:44 remaining in the second quarter, Westbrook picked off a pass from Brice Sensabaugh — his 1,945th career steal. Moments later, he connected with Zeke Nnaji for a dunk — his 9,888th career assist.
This isn’t the first time Westbrook has surpassed Robertson on a major statistical leaderboard. Only May 10, 2021, Westbrook posted his 182nd career triple-double to become the NBA’s all-time leader. Robertson had held the record for 47 years.
Westbrook continues to stuff the stat sheet in his 17th NBA season. Playing primarily off the bench, he’s averaging 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.4 steals in his first season with the Nuggets.
And congrats to @russwest44 of the @nuggets for also moving into 8th on the all-time ASSIST list! https://t.co/hmISw4HNgY pic.twitter.com/sxbsuAiaol
