Josh Giddey and the Bulls are rolling at the right time.
The Chicago Bulls are peaking at the right time. The Bulls’ recent performance against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday was just the latest sign of a team ready to make some noise in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.
The win over the Lakers on Thursday can only be described as stunning. The Bulls were down by five points with less than 15 seconds left, but back-to-back 3-pointers in a span of 4.1 seconds gave Chicago the lead. Austin Reaves appeared to score the game-winning bucket for the Lakers with 3.1 seconds left with a layup, but Josh Giddey sank a half-court heave that gave the Bulls the victory. Giddey’s shot became the furthest game-winning shot in franchise history, according to NBA.com.
Giddey finished Thursday’s win with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for his fifth triple-double of the season, the second-most in franchise history. It also allowed the Bulls to secure a win over the Lakers for the second time in less than a week. But most importantly, it showed that the Bulls are ready to make some serious noise in the East.
Entering Friday’s slate, the Bulls sit in ninth place of the Eastern Conference with a 33-40 record. The team also owns a record of 8-2 over the last 10 games. That’s the second-best mark in the Eastern Conference over that stretch, trailing only the 9-1 Celtics.
“We’ve shown over the past month, six weeks we can compete with anybody,” Giddey said.
The Bulls are showing they can compete with anybody, and if they can keep this hot form throughout the final weeks of the regular season, they’ll be a team no one wants to face come playoff time.
