Wilt Chamberlain holds all top five spots for the 76ers with the most rebounds in a playoff game.
The Philadelphia 76ers had the luxury of having one of the best rebounders in the history of the league wearing their jersey in Wilt Chamberlain. When analyzing the top rebounding performances of the franchise in the postseason, Chamberlain’s name appears time and time again. Here, we show you the top five individual rebounding performances in the postseason for players wearing the 76ers jersey, all of which are claimed by Wilt the Stilt himself.
Wilt Chamberlain, 41 rebounds (1967 Eastern Division Finals, Game 3)
Chamberlain was a rebounding machine in his prime, and his best postseason output in this category came in the 1967 NBA Playoffs. Specifically, it was Game 3 of the Eastern Division Finals against the Boston Celtics, where the Sixers cruised to a 115-104 victory, giving them a 3-0 series lead. Chamberlain finished that contest close to a triple-double after racking up 20 points, a staggering 41 rebounds and nine assists.
Wilt Chamberlain, 39 rebounds (1965 Eastern Division Finals, Game 2)
Chamberlain never reached the 40-rebound mark again in the playoffs, but he came close to that output several times. Game 2 of the 1965 East Division Finals against the Boston Celtics was one of his best individual performances in the rebounding category, where he finished with a strong line of 30 points, 39 boards and eight assists. Chamberlain had to battle with Bill Russell in that game, but he led the 76ers to a 109-103 win. However, Boston would win the series 4-3 after a 110-109 victory in Game 7.
Wilt Chamberlain, 38 rebounds (1967 NBA Finals, Game 2)
Chamberlain made his presence felt in Game 2 of the 1967 NBA Finals after grabbing 38 rebounds in a 126-95 victory over the San Francisco Warriors. Chamberlain wasn’t his dominant self in that win, but he still ended with a triple-double as he added 10 points and 10 assists to go along with his 38 boards. Chamberlain and the 76ers would win the NBA Finals that season after outlasting the Warriors 4-2. Chamberlain averaged 17.7 points, 28.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in the series.
Wilt Chamberlain, 37 rebounds (1965 Eastern Division Finals, Game 3)
Another one of Chamberlain’s epic rebounding performances came in Game 3 of the 1965 Eastern Division Finals — once again versus the Celtics and Russell. Chamberlain finished that contest with 24 points and 37 rebounds while shooting 7-for-21 from the field and 10-for-15 from the charity stripe. Even though the 76ers lost that series to Boston, Chamberlain was a dominant presence on the glass. Through the seven games of the Eastern Finals, Chamberlain averaged 30.1 points and 31.4 rebounds per contest.
Wilt Chamberlain, 36 rebounds (1967 Eastern Division Finals, Game 5)
The final spot on this list also belongs to Chamberlain, who happens to have the top 28 rebounding performances in the playoffs in the history of the 76ers organization. This time, in Game 5 of the 1967 Eastern Division Finals against the Celtics, Chamberlain finished with an excellent triple-double of 29 points, 36 rebounds and 13 assists, as the 76ers won the series 4-1. Chamberlain averaged 21.6 points, 32.0 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game in the series.
