Orlando Magic single-season points per game leaders

Read on to see the best all-time scoring seasons in Magic history.

Tracy McGrady leads the Magic’s list as the top PPG scoring leader.

The Magic joined the league in 1989 and over those 37 seasons, they have had some of the league’s best scorers suit up in their iconic Black and Blue. While there are some extremely promising young scorers in the Magic’s current core, this list is peppered with two of the biggest franchise icons from the team’s earlier years. Read on to see the best all-time scoring seasons in Magic history.

Tracy McGrady – 2003, 32.1 PPG

T-Mac’s 2003 was a memorable as he took home the first of two scoring titles and earned First Team All-NBA honors. McGrady took a huge leap from 25.6 points to 32.1 points per game and shot an impressive 45.7 percent from the floor. He had the first 50-point game of his career when he dropped 52 points against the Bulls on Feb. 21 of that season. Other than McGrady, only Kobe Bryant averaged 30.0 points per game that season.

Shaquille O’Neal – 1994, 29.3 PPG

O’Neal was the first true face of the franchise for the Magic who helped turn them from a fledgling team to a contender. His 1994 season was remarkable as he helped lead the Magic to their first 50-win season. O’Neal finished second in the league in scoring behind fellow big man, David Robinson (29.8 PPG). This was just O’Neal’s second season in the league, and yet he did all of that while leading the league in field goal percentage and effective field goal percentage.

Shaquille O’Neal – 1995, 29.3 PPG

O’Neal continued his ascent the following season with another stellar year. They stacked on seven more wins to get to 57 and made it to the NBA Finals. Shaq’s 29.3 points per game figure was indeed enough to lead the league after that same average had him as the runner-up the previous year. O’Neal also averaged 11.4 rebounds per game and his dominant all-around season resulted in him finishing second in MVP voting.

Tracy McGrady – 2004, 28.0 PPG

McGrady showed his 2003 season was no fluke with another stellar season the following year. T-Mac led the league in scoring for a second straight year with 28.0 points per game and had strong contributions across the board with 6.0 rebounds and  5.5 assists per game. McGrady was named Second Team All-NBA for the second time in his career for his output that season. T-Mac had two of the best scoring outputs of his career that year with a 51-point game in November and a career-best 62 in March against the Wizards.

Tracy McGrady – 2001, 26.8 PPG

McGrady rounds out our list with his third entry among the Magic’s all-time scoring seasons. 2001 was McGrady’s first season in Orlando after starting his career in Toronto, and he immediately raised his game to another level. He went from being in 6th Man of the Year consideration in Toronto to winning Most Improved Player and garnering MVP votes in his Orlando debut season. T-Mac bumped his scoring average from 15.4 points to 26.8 points and earned his first All-Star nod. He would go on to be an All-Star in each of his four seasons with the Magic.
