NBA Fantasy - Salary Cap Edition: Week 1 update

NBA season is off and running, and we've got a Week 1 update to help you in NBA Fantasy - Salary Cap Edition.

Luka Dončić racked up 82 fantasy points on opening night.

Ah, how good it feels. The stars of the basketball world are hooping again, and with them, fantasy is back at full tilt.

There has been no shortage of big numbers, big games and big moments. And three days into the 2025-26 regular season, the fun is just getting started.

Here are all the need-to-knows midway through Week 1:

Story So Far

It all began with one big bang. The Oklahoma City Thunder (1-0) and Houston Rockets (0-1) reminded fans what they had so dearly missed, battling through a double-overtime thriller to decide the NBA’s regular-season opener. But the reigning champions ultimately took it, 125-124.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looked every bit the part of a former MVP as he racked up a team-high 62 fantasy points. Cason Wallace (43), Chet Holmgren (39) and Isaiah Hartenstein (30) also did some damage in the absence of Jalen Williams, who had 2787 total fantasy points a season ago.

In Kevin Durant’s highly-anticipated Rockets debut, it was Alperen Şengün who stole the show with 73 fantasy points, leading all scorers. Durant himself tied with Amen Thompson for second-most on the team as the two pitched in 38 apiece.

Top Performances

Luka Dončić is back doing things only he can. The five-time NBA All-Star racked up 82 fantasy points on opening night, despite a 119-109 defeat for the Los Angeles Lakers (0-1) at the hands of the Golden State Warriors (1-0). It’s the finest fantasy showing thus far — accomplished by way of 43 points scored, 12 rebounds, nine assists, one block and two steals. Dončić has been drafted by 30.4% of fantasy general managers, and rather quickly, is proving his popularity.

Also responsible for plenty of noise was Şengün on Tuesday night. His 73 fantasy points stood out in a sea of stars involved in the season-opening barnburner between Oklahoma City and Houston. The fifth-year center wound up just a few digits shy of a triple-double with 39 points scored, 11 rebounds, seven assists, one block and two steals. Even in the team’s loss, he made his mark, and shot 5-for-8 from deep in the process.

Then there’s Victor Wembanyama, rounding out this first top trio of the 2025-26 season. His first regular-season contest since Feb. 12 was a smashing success in the form of 69 fantasy points. The 7-foot-4 unicorn submitted 40 points scored, 15 rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal as the San Antonio Spurs (1-0) rolled past the Dallas Mavericks (0-1) by a 125-92 score Wednesday night. If Wembanyama’s NBA track record is any indication, he’s just getting started.

Way-Too-Early Transaction Tips

It usually isn’t wise to change up your roster before a full week of the regular season has transpired. After all, two GameDays can only offer so many statistics. But if you really want to roll the dice and potentially get a points boost, some early overperformers are worth looking into.

Davion Mitchell tops that list entering Thursday. He tallied 55 fantasy points for the Miami Heat (0-1) on Wednesday, but bears a price tag of just $7.5M, representing the most single-game points yet by any player under $10M. The guard will have further opportunities this week against the Memphis Grizzlies (1-0) and New York Knicks (1-0) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. But in his first outing of Year 5, he was a solid scorer-facilitator with 16 points scored and 12 assists.

Another transaction target for your consideration is VJ Edgecombe, who left quite the impression in his league debut. The former No. 3 overall pick made some history with 34 points scored Wednesday — the third-most ever in a debut behind Wilt Chamberlain (1959) and Frank Selvy (1954). Edgecombe put up 50 fantasy points in all for just $7.5M, and so far, that has him ranked as the third-highest-value player in the game.
