Beyond the Take: Chet Holmgren Breaks Down NBA Reads From a Pro's Perspective
Chet Holmgren analyzes the game in 'Beyond the Take', a new series on NBA platforms.
With all of the high-flying, fast-paced action on the court, it can be easy to forget about all of the X’s and O’s that go into each NBA game.
Do you ever wonder how NBA players break down film at the highest level? Here is your chance to find out.
Chet Holmgren takes fans inside the thought process behind playmaking and what he sees in real time on the floor in the premiere of “Beyond the Take,” a new series available on the NBA App, NBA.com and NBA social channels.
As both host and professor, the Oklahoma City Thunder center-forward uses film to explain the detailed decision-making that happens on the hardwood.
Holmgren sheds light on the advantages of the full-court press, the resurgence of teams across the league utilizing “double bigs” as centers have become more versatile, and keys to protecting the rim on defense.
“I know a lot of tips and tricks that I’ve learned along the way. Things that are little known, well known, tricks of the trade,” he says.
“Beyond the Take” is part of the league’s streaming platform launched at the start of the 2025-2026 season. It joins a full slate of programming with shows like “Coaches Corner,” designed to bring a mix of live games, highlights and original content right to fans.
