Lou Hudson (1944)
Hudson is considered one of the greatest Hawks of all time. The St. Louis Hawks selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 1966 NBA Draft out of the University of Minnesota. Hudson made his mark immediately, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting and then making his first All-Star appearance in 1969.
Hudson made six straight All-Star appearances and finished seventh in MVP voting and earned Second-Team All-NBA honors in 1970. Hudson also finished 18th in MVP voting in 1973 after averaging a career-high 27.1 points to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Hudson closed his career by playing two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers before officially retiring in 1979. All of that earned Hudson a Hall of Fame induction in 2022.
Rod Strickland (1966)
Strickland was an All-American at DePaul University, earning him the 19th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft. He spent his first two seasons with the New York Knicks but became a standout after being traded to the San Antonio Spurs during the 1989-90 campaign. He averaged 14.2 points and 8.0 assists across 31 games once he arrived in Texas, spending the next two-plus years there. Strickland took his game to another level when he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1992, averaging 16.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.6 steals in his five years with the Blazers.
However, his most notable accomplishment was with the Washington Wizards in 1998, when Strickland led the league with 10.5 assists per game. He also finished 18th in MVP voting while making Second Team All-NBA that year. Strickland also spent time with the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors before officially retiring in 2005. Strickland averaged 13.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 7.3 apg and 1.5 spg throughout his 17-year career.
