Monthly NBA Awards: Nikola Jokić, Cade Cunningham win honors for October & November

Players of the Month

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić and Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham have been named the Kia NBA Players of the Month for games played in October and November.

Western Conference: Jokić powered Denver to a 14-5 record to start the season while averaging a triple-double with stats of 28.9 points (6th in NBA), 12.4 rebounds (2nd in NBA) and 10.9 assists (1st in NBA). The 3-time NBA MVP tallied four straight triple-doubles to start the season, tying Oscar Robertson’s record for the most to begin a season.

Eastern Conference: Detroit’s star guard led the team to a dominant 16-4 mark in October/November, the best record in the East. Cunningham posted averages of 28.8 points (8th in NBA), 9.4 assists (2nd in NBA) and 6.4 rebounds (9th among guards) over 18 games and scored a career-high 46 points in an overtime win against Washington on Nov. 10.


Rookies of the Month

Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg and Charlotte Hornets guard/forward Kon Knueppel have been named the Kia NBA Rookies of the Month for games played in October and November.

Western Conference: Flagg averaged 16.7 points (.462 FG%, .803 FT%), 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 33.9 minutes per game through 20 appearances (all starts). He totaled 48 points in the clutch in those games, the fourth-most clutch points through October and November games, and he led all players in clutch field goal percentage with 56.0% FG% (min. 20 FGA).

Eastern Conference: Knueppel leads all rookies in scoring with 18.4 points per game and his 69 3-pointers made through Nov. 30 ranked first among rookies and 6th league-wide. The Duke product also led all rookies in 3-point percentage (.413 3P%) and free throw percentage (.898 FT%) while ranking in the top five among rookies in total points (367), rebounds (114), assists (59), field goals (127), free throws (44), and minutes played (669).


Defensive Players of the Month

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace and Toronto Raptors guard-forward Scottie Barnes have been named the Kia NBA Western and Eastern Conference Defensive Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in October and November.

Western Conference: Thunder forward Cason Wallace led the league in steals to start the season with 2.2 steals per game. He also averages 4.0 deflections per game to lead the West. The Thunder have posted the best defensive rating in the NBA at 103.6.

Eastern Conference: The Raptors’ star guard-forward recorded a combined 64 steals and blocks in October/November, the most in the NBA. He was also the only player to tally 30+ steals and 30+ blocks over the first two months. The Raptors posted the third-best defensive rating in the East at 111.5.


Coaches of the Month

Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault and Detroit Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff have been named the NBA Coaches of the Month for games played in October and November.

Western Conference: Mark Daigneault (20-1, best record in the NBA)

Eastern Conference: JB Bickerstaff (16-4, best record in the East)
