Live Updates: LaMelo Ball triple-doubles, Reaves scores a career high and more

Sunday’s NBA action kicked off with Victor Wembanyama scoring 31 points in a 118-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets. 


Sunday’s NBA Headlines

  • Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs stay hot, moving to 3-0 after a matinee takedown of the Nets, 118-107.
  • Despite the loss to the Cavaliers, Giannis’ scorching start to the season, including tonight’s 40-point performance, needs to be recognized. He is now the first player in NBA history to open the season with 100+ points, 40+ rebounds, and 15+ assists, through his first three games.
  • Anthony Edwards suffered a hamstring injury just three minutes into tonight’s game against the Pacers and did not return. In his absence, Julius Randle provided a 31-point effort that aided a 114-110 victory over the Pacers.
  • LaMelo Ball becomes just the second player this season to post a triple-double, with 38 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists. Most importantly, he did it in a 139-113 win over the Wizards.
  • Austin Reaves delivered a career-high 51 points and finished one assist shy of a triple-double in a 127-120 win over the Kings.

Goes off for 50-plus

Reaves had the game of his life, scoring a career-high 51 points, grabbing 10 boards, and finishing just one assist shy of a triple-double. With Luka and LeBron sidelined, Reaves was going to need to step up, and he overdelivered, as the Lakers beat the Kings 127-120.

Reaves is getting it done for the short-handed Lakers and approaching triple-double territory.

He’s up to 42 points now, on 5-for-8 3-point shooting, and is 17 of 18 from the charity stripe. He’s also added 7 boards, 8 assists, and 2 steals.

The Lake Show leads 103-111 early in the fourth quarter.

Big man dunks in Portland

The third quarter has been mostly controlled by the Clippers, opening up a 6-point advantage over Portland with two minutes remaining in the third.

A great part of that success has been Zubac and Harden, who connected multiple times in the third frame, including here on the lob after Harden crosses over the defender.

Nightcap matchups enter halftime

The Kings and Lakers are knotted up at 62 at the break. Sans Luka and LeBron, the Lakers have received a 21-point effort from Austin Reaves, while Deandre Ayton has poured in 15.

For Sacramento, it’s DeMar DeRozan’s 17 points leading the way, while Zach LaVine has chipped in 13, including this finish on the lob.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers have a 5-point advantage over the Clippers at halftime.

Deni Avdija and Jrue Holiday each have 13 for Portland, and Kawhi has 13 to lead the Clippers.

The Cooper Flagg highlight reel keeps expanding, as he takes flight on the runout and throws down the ferocious one-handed slam for two of his 19 points.

The Mavericks lead the Raptors 103-91 with the fourth quarter about to start.

Flagg’s highlight reel is expanding

Cooper Flagg has four assists tonight, and none are as pretty as this.

First, he frees himself up with a spin move to get space, then, as he leans back, throws up the lob for Lively II for the finish.

The Mavericks have a 90-85 lead on the Raptors late in the third quarter.

6 PM Eastern games come to a close

A trio of games tipped off at 6 PM, all of which have just come to a close.

Firstly, the Bucks fell to the Cavaliers, 118-113, despite a massive 40-point effort from Giannis, which included 14 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

The Cavaliers received a slightly more balanced effort, getting 24 points from Donovan Mitchell and 23 from Evan Mobley, while Sam Merrill, De’Andre Hunter, and Lonzo Ball all scored in double figures.

The Hornets won handily, outscoring the Wizards, 88-51, in the second half. They were powered by Ball’s triple-double effort, but also received 20-point efforts from rookie Kon Knueppel, Collin Sexton, and Miles Bridges.

Lastly, the Knicks couldn’t handle the Heat in Miami and fell 115-107 even with a 37-point, 7-assist performance from Jalen Brunson.

The Heat were led by Norman Powell, who punched in 29 to go with 7 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Balls his way to a triple-double

LaMelo Ball becomes just the second player this season to secure a triple-double.

He’s done it in style as well, posting a 38-point, 13-rebound, and 13-assist effort, to go along with 3 steals. He’s also a +30, with the Hornets up 127-107 over the Wizards in the final four minutes of the matchup.

Antetokounmpo is keeping the Bucks within reach, as they enter the fourth quarter down one to the Cavaliers, 85-84.

In the process, he’s stuffing the stat sheet with 29 points on 10-for-14 shooting, while grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.

Julius Randle is putting the Timberwolves on his shoulders as Anthony Edwards has exited with a hamstring injury. Minnesota’s power forward has 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting, and they’re knotted up with the Pacers at 35 apiece in the second quarter.

Cam Whitmore jumps the passing lane for the steal and has the paint all to himself for the two-handed slam finish.

Whitmore is tied for a team-high 7 points for the Wizards, who are up 43-37 over the Hornets midway through the second quarter.

Powell is hot early

Norman Powell hasn’t needed any time getting used to playing for the Heat. After scoring 28 in his regular-season debut with the team and following that up with a 15-point performance, he’s scored 13 in the first quarter against the Knicks.

Pistons drive to victory

Detroit struggled early and late, but in the end got a 119-113 victory against the Celtics.

They did so by dominating the glass, outrebounding Boston 54-38, thanks to superb performances from Jalen Duren (17 boards) and Ausar Thompson (12 boards). The duo also added 24 and 21 points, respectively.

Jaylen Brown scored 41 for the Celtics in the loss.

It hasn’t taken long for Antetokounmpo to make an impact in Cleveland. The Greek Freak leads all scorers early with 8 points, including this finish in the lane.

The Pistons have outscored the Celtics by 22 points since the start of the second quarter, and a big part of that has been the work of Jalen Duren.

Detroit’s big man has 22 points and 13 rebounds, including this alley-oop finish,

The teams head into the fourth quarter with Detroit leading 94-81 over Boston.

Wembanyama is off to a torrid start for the 2025-26 campaign, proving that we all still really have no idea how great he can be yet.

His elite-tier effort today earned him the ability to call himself the first player in NBA history to record 100+ points and 15+ blocks through his team’s first three games.

He’s just getting started.

Spurs move to 3-0

San Antonio overcame a 40-11 second-half run from the Nets and held on for a 118-107 victory.

Although it came in a losing effort, Cam Thomas was sensational, canning 5 of 12 3-point attempts in a 40-point game-high effort.

Of course, in the end, the story was about Wembanyama, though. The French phenom poured in a team-high 31 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals, six blocks, and highlights like this,

Also of note, Dylan Harper had the productive game of his very young career thus far, seeing 29 minutes on the floor. The 2025 No. 2 selection added 20 points, with six boards, eight assists, and two steals. All of which are career highs.
