Saturday Takeaways✍️✍️

  • Luka Dončić entered Saturday averaging 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 2.0 steals on 50.0% shooting this season, but a dominant effort from the skeleton-crew Hawks caught the Lakers off guard to the tune of a 122-102 upset win.

Suns strike twice, best Clippers again

After earning a 115-102 victory over the Clippers on Thursday, Phoenix delivered a repeat performance Saturday, nearly leading wire-to-wire in a 114-103 win.

Across these two outings, Devin Booker has combined for 45 points (18-41 FG, 6-6 FT), 16 rebounds and 16 assists.

Ivica Zubac (21 points, 15 rebounds) and James Harden (13 points, 13 assists) each posted double-doubles for the Clippers, but 4-for-15 shooting is unacceptable production from Harden and Kawhi Leonard missed his third-straight game with an ankle sprain.

Nuggets dispatch Pacers 117-100

Enough said. Nikola Jokić booms again despite posting eight turnovers — perhaps a byproduct of extra attention and playmaking burden while Jamal Murray (calf) and Aaron Gordon (hamstring) were unavailable for the second half of Denver’s back-to-back set.

Nonetheless, Denver persevered, securing back-to-back wins versus Golden State and now Indiana.

Aaron Nesmith led the Pacers with an efficient 25 points (7-10 FG, 8-8 FT), while Andrew Nembhard struggled with his efficiency en route to 22 points (7-20 FG, 6-6 FT). Nembhard continues to deal with an inflated playmaking workload himself for the injury-riddled Pacers.

T.J. McConnell, Obi Toppin, Bennedict Mathurin and Quenton Jackson were all unavailable for Indiana on Saturday, in addition to the season-long absence of Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles).

Donovan Mitchell flips the switch, Cavaliers finish strong

After a 1-for-10 start from the field, Mitchell (10-24 FG) finishes tied with De’Andre Hunter (10-16 FG) for a game-high 29 points. Cleveland finishes the game on a 12-0 to steal a victory from Chicago — Cavaliers 128, Bulls 122.

Despite the offensive fireworks, both teams combined for just 21 turnovers. Chicago beat Cleveland in the rebounding battle (49 to 39), connected on 44.8% of 29 3PA as a team, and attempted 10 more free throws — connecting on a pristine 33 of 36 from the charity stripe.

Revenge game Isaac Okoro led the way with 19 points (5-7 FG, 6-6 FT) as part of a seven-player crew that all registered between 11 and 19 points for Chicago.

It was truly a tale of two halves, as Cleveland outscored Chicago by 22 points after the break.

Hawks post 50/40/90 offense, role players emerge in win

Atlanta shot 51.1% from the field as a team while generating an assist on 37 of their 48 made buckets to fuel a  122-102 victory over the Lakers despite a shorthanded rotation.

Mo Gueye continues his emergence in the Hawks’ rotation. A third-year forward and Washington St. product who only began playing basketball seven years ago, Gueye (21 points, seven rebounds, seven assists) has rare athleticism and floor spacing ability as a hybrid PF/C on both ends of the floor. His scoring and facilitating totals Saturday were each career-high marks.

Rookie Asa Newell and wing Vít Krejčí each chipped in 17 points, while Dyson Daniels stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists. Not to be forgotten, Zaccharie Risacher’s 19 points (7-14 FG) paints the picture of a deep and talented cast of jumbo guards and forwards Atlanta is stockpiling.

6-man show, 76ers get it done✅✅

On a night when Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Kelly Oubre and Trendon Watford combined to average 37.9 minutes each, Philadelphia’s six-man core rotation accounted for 123 of the 76ers’ 130 points in what was ultimately a 130-120 victory over Toronto.

Watford (20 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists) logged the first triple-double of his career while posting career-best marks in each category. The connective power forward is a player to monitor in Philadelphia’s rotation amid an offensive bounce back to kick off the 2025-26 campaign.

The Raptors amounted up to a 14-point lead in the first half, but never led in the second half as the defense failed to string together stops. With Toronto grading as a top-five turnover-forcing defense in the league, the 76ers played quality basketball by only committing 13 turnovers.

10:39 PM / November 8, 2025

Phoenix raining threes, up 14 at halftime

The Suns’ connecting on 45.5% of 22 3PA represents the difference (and then some) compared to the Clippers’ 1-of-14 start from beyond the arc –helping fuel a 60-46 lead for Phoenix.

Jalen Green was forced to exit early with a hamstring injury. Devin Booker (13 points) and Colin Gillespie (12 points) represent the game’s only players with double-digit scoring.

Miami’s strong identity on display, earns win

Miami’s off-the-charts tempo dictated the pace of the game, while Nikola Jović boomed for a career-high 29 points (10-16 FG, 3-7 3PM) off the bench, as the Heat defended homecourt with a 136-131 victory over Portland.

Overcoming a 1-for-15 start from the field and a cumulative 28.6 team 3P% on 35 attempts, Miami’s offensive pace played to their favor as Portland committed 20 turnovers in an attempt to match the speed.

The Heat are running an innovative offense that features the least pick-and-roll in the league thus far. Their driving and cutting-based system diced up a typically stout Portland defense to the tune of 63.9% shooting from inside the arc.

Deni Avdija (33 points, 11 rebounds, eight) assists was sharp for Portland, continuing to dominate physically in transition. He is averaging a career-high 4.9 assists per game as well. Jrue Holiday was on triple-double watch with 18 points (6-19 FG), nine rebounds and 13 assists.

9:49 PM / November 8, 2025

San Antonio versatile, connective, efficient in victory

De’Aaron Fox (24 points, 9-14 FG, 2-5 3PM) showed off his full three-level scoring and looked healthy coming off a minor hamstring injury, as San Antonio earns a 126-119 victory over New Orleans.

Double-doubles from Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle joined Fox’s team-high scoring performance as key production pillars.

Trey Murphy (41 points, 15-22 FG) converted from all over the court — a welcome sign for New Orleans. The sharpshooter has rained in 47.8% of 23 three-point attempts entering Saturday’s game, but he had connected on just 40.6% of 32 shots at the rim.

9:21 PM / November 8, 2025

Bulls ball movement🤌🤌

Owners of the fifth-best eFG% and fourth-best transition offense, the Bulls continue putting on an offensive clinic.

De’Andre Hunter (9-14) and Evan Mobley (9-13) each have 24 points for the Cavaliers.

9:09 PM / November 8, 2025

Trey Murphy cooking♨️♨️

Trey Murphy leads all scorers with 36 points on a remarkably efficient 13-for-19 shooting performance from the field (5-10 3PM). The Pelicans’ rookie class has formed his complementary attack on the night, with Jeremiah Fears (17 points) and Derek Queen (11 points) representing New Orleans’ next leading scorers

Nonetheless, San Antonio controls a 110-103 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

PEYTON WATSON HAMMER

A full-extension hammer from Peyton Watson😳😳

8:33 PM / November 8, 2025

Great Barrier Thief 🤝 Atlanta record books

Dyson Daniels (10 points, six rebounds, 11 assists, one steal) has not recorded a steal in 62 consecutive games –setting a new Hawks’ franchise record.

Turning defense-to-offense has been a huge theme for Atlanta on Saturday, as forcing 17 turnovers and converting them into 29 points has been a pivotal factor in a dominant 96-70 lead over the Lakers in the final minute of the third quarter.

Luka Dončić leads all scorers with 22 points (7-17 FG), but Atlanta has limited his efficiency while holding a plus-21 margin during his minutes thus far.

9:25 PM / November 8, 2025

Bulls’ offense machine🦾🦾

Chicago booms for 72 points en route to a 16-point lead over Cleveland at halftime.

Josh Giddey leads Chicago with both 13 points and four assists, while three other teammates join him with double-digit scoring — starring the second unit.

Evan Mobley has posted a game-high 16 points. Donovan Mitchell (3 points, 1-10 FG) is struggling for Cleveland. The Cavaliers have connected on just 28% of 25 threes as a team.

8:56 PM / November 8, 2025

Moussa Cisse flashing

Rookie two-way center Moussa Cisse (Memphis grad) is popping for Dallas while Anthony Davis (calf) is unavailable.

Cisse has been formidable on both ends, stuffing dunks and emphatically protecting the rim — including shutdowns of two Cam Whitmore dunk attempts. Cisse has five points (2-2 FG), six rebounds and three blocks in 16 minutes of action.

8:48 PM / November 8, 2025

Welcome back De’Aaron Fox

Fox swishes a three for his first bucket after a delayed start to the season following a training camp hamstring injury. The 27-year-old is looking spry with his trademark speed noticeable immediately.

8:14 PM / November 8, 2025

Raptors firing on all cylinders

A 43-33 lead for the Raptors has been fueled by a seismic 22-0 advantage in bench points versus Philadelphia. Nonetheless, it’s been a balanced effort overall for Toronto, with Immanuel Quickley’s 9 points (3-4 FG, 3-3 3PM) represents the team leader in scoring thus far.

Trendon Watford’s 11 points (5-6 FG) pace Philadelphia, while Kelly Oubre and Tyrese Maxey have each scored 10.

Wizards jump out, Mavericks respond

An early 18-0 run propels a 33-24 lead for Dallas in the final minute of the first quarter. Remarkably, 10 players have already scored for the Mavericks in a balanced attack. Defense to offense has been a theme, including a huge block by rookie two-way big Moussa Cisse on Cam Whitmore, and a couple Cooper Flagg leakouts off steals.

CJ McCollum is keeping Washington afloat, pouring in 14 (5-8 FG) of the team’s first 19 points.

Max Christie dimes up Daniel Gafford in side pick-and-roll. Christie continuing to develop and creating for others is a trend to monitor.
