The LA Clippers have seen some excellent defenders play for the franchise. That includes Bob McAdoo, who won an MVP award while playing for the team. Let’s highlight their top five leaders in blocks per game for a single season.


Bill Walton – 1983, 3.6 BPG

Walton, originally drafted by the Trail Blazers, joined the San Diego Clippers in 1979. However, he appeared in just 14 games before sitting out the next two seasons due to injuries. He appeared in 33 games in 1982-83 and averaged 3.6 blocks to go along with 14.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Across 169 career games with the Clippers, Walton averaged 11.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks.

Benoit Benjamin – 1988, 3.4 BPG

The Clippers selected Benjamin with the third pick in the 1985 Draft. He averaged 2.6 blocks per game during his rookie season and followed that up by averaging 2.6 blocks again the following season. In 1987-88, he saw his playing time increase to 33 minutes per game. That helped him average a career high 3.4 blocks.

Bob McAdoo – 1974, 3.3 BPG

When the Clippers were known as the Buffalo Braves, they selected McAdoo with the second pick in the 1972 Draft. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 1972-73, averaging 18.0 points and 9.1 rebounds. The following season, he finished second in MVP voting by averaging 30.6 points, 15.1 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. He won the MVP award the following season and eventually led the league in points per game in three of his four seasons with the Braves. Across 334 career games with the franchise, he averaged 28.2 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks.

Garfield Heard -1974, 2.8 BPG

Heard played for the SuperSonics and Bulls before being traded to the Braves. In his first season with the team, he averaged 15.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.7 steals over 36 minutes per game. All of those averages would end up being the highest marks of his career. Heard eventually played for the Suns before spending his final season in the NBA with the San Diego Clippers. Over 276 regular season games with the franchise, he averaged 10.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.5 steals.

Benoit Benjamin – 1989, 2.8 BPG

Benjamin remained busy in 1988-89, logging 33 minutes per game. In addition to his 2.8 blocks per game, he averaged what would end up being his career high of 16.4 points per game. Across 406 career regular season games with the Clippers, Benjamin averaged 13.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks.
