
Oscar Robertson of the Cincinnati Royals is awarded the 1961 NBA All-Star MVP Trophy in Syracuse, New York.
The Sacramento Kings franchise has played in multiple cities during its history. It has also been known as the Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha Kings and the Kansas City Kings. Since the franchise began in 1948-49, they have also had several players be named All-NBA First Team. Let’s look at the accomplishments of each player that helped them earn the honor.
Oscar Robertson – 9 Times (1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969)
When the Kings franchise was known as the Cincinnati Royals, it selected Robertson with the first pick in the 1960 Draft. In his first season, he averaged 30.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.7 assists per game. That helped him make the All-Star team, win the Rookie of the Year award, make the All-NBA First Team and finish fifth in MVP voting.
Robertson would eventually be named All-NBA First Team in each of his first nine seasons in the NBA. He also won the 1963-64 MVP award, led the league in points per game one time and led the league in assists per game seven times during his career. Across 10 seasons with the Royals, he averaged 29.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 10.3 assists.
Bob Davies – 4 Times (1949, 1950, 1951, 1952)
McCollum has been the most consistent performer for the Pelicans this season, turning back the clock on Jan. 3 against the Wizards.
Davies played all seven seasons of his career with the Rochester Royals. In his rookie season, he averaged 15.1 points and led the league by averaging 5.4 assists per game. During his career, he was named All-NBA First Team four times and made four All-Star teams. He averaged 14.3 points and 4.9 assists over 462 games.
Jerry Lucas – 3 Times (1965, 1966, 1968)
Lucas won the Rookie of the Year award in 1963-64, then made All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career the following season. In that 1964-65 campaign, he averaged 21.4 points and 20.0 rebounds per game. Across 465 career regular season games with the Cincinnati Royals, Lucas averaged 19.6 points and 19.1 rebounds.
Tiny Archibald – 3 Times (1973, 1975, 1976)
Archibald was named All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career when he averaged 34.0 points and 11.4 assists per game during the 1972-73 season. Both of those marks led the league and helped him finish third in MVP voting. Archibald played with the team when it was known as the Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha Kings and the Kansas City Kings. Over 433 career regular season games with the franchise, he averaged 25.2 points, 8.1 assists and 1.5 steals.
Chris Webber – 2001
Webber joined the Kings prior to the 1998-99 season. In his first season with the franchise, he led the league by averaging 13.0 rebounds per game. That helped him land All-NBA Second Team honors. His lone career All-NBA First Team accolade came in 2000-01 when he averaged 27.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. He finished fourth in MVP voting that season. In 377 career regular season games with the Kings, he averaged 23.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks.
