Las Vegas – Asa Newell scored a team-high 15 points, and the Atlanta Hawks opened their 2026 Las Vegas Summer League campaign with a dominant 93-66 win over the San Antonio Spurs at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Thursday, July 9.

The Hawks set the tone early and raced to a 27-15 lead after the first quarter, aided by an 11-4 run to close out the opening 10 minutes. Atlanta didn’t lose control at any point in the game, and the Spurs never led. The closest they came to the lead was 3-2 with 8:28 left in the first quarter. Atlanta won the second quarter by six points (23-17), the third by two points (21-19) and the final period by seven (22-15).

Newell paved the way for the Hawks with 15 points, five rebounds and two assists, and he was one of seven Atlanta players to score in double digits. Zuby Ejiofor (12 points, four rebounds, three assists), and Isaac McKneely (10 points) also scored in double digits as starters, while UNC standout Henri Veesaar made his presence felt off the bench with 14 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes. The Hawks shot 42.9% from the floor and just 21.1% from beyond the arc.

Tarris Reed Jr. got the start at center and led the Spurs with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes. A trio of players finished with 12 points for San Antonio: Carter Bryant, Ja’Kobi Gillespie and R.J. Davis. San Antonio shot just 33.8% from the floor and a woeful 11.8% from 3-point range, a fair reflection of a team that couldn’t reach the 70-point mark.

Both teams will be in action Saturday at Thomas & Mack Center. The Spurs will face the Knicks in a Summer League rematch of the 2026 NBA Finals (6 ET, ESPN), while the Hawks will take on the Nets (8 ET, ESPN).
