He also tallied a career-high tying nine points, a career-high six rebounds and one block in 23 minutes off the bench on Oct. 31 vs. NYK…played in 27 games (all starts) in the NBA G-League for the Cleveland Charge. His 19.2 points per game average ranked 39th nationally and third in the MAC...Bates also finished fourth in the MAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.5) and shot 76-230 (.330 3FG%) from beyond the arc on the season...His 76 made three-pointers ranked eighth in a single season in program history...Bates registered a season-high 43 points at Toledo on Jan. 24, the ninth-best single game total in the NCAA this season...he played his Freshman season (2021-22) at University of Memphis where he appeared in 18 games (13 starts), averaging 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.3 minutes.

PERSONAL LIFE

Son of Edith and Elgin "E.J." Bates...his father E.J. played Division II basketball for Kentucky Wesleyan and played professionally for five years in Germany and Switzerland...E.J. manages the basketball training organization called "Bates Fundamentals" and coaches it affiliated AAU team out of Ypsilanti, Michigan...was named Gatorade National Player of the Year as a Sophomore in 2020, becoming the first sophomore to win the boys award in the awards history.
