Rui has appeared in 278 career games (166 starts) for the Lakers and Wizards. In the playoffs, he has appeared in 26 games (11 starts) with the Lakers and Wizards, averaging 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 27.4 minutes. He has scored in double figures in 186 career games, including 46 games with 20+ points and 7 games with 30+, and he has tallied 12 career double-doubles. Hachimura was a 2019-20 All-Rookie Second Team selection. Selected by the Washington Wizards with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, he was later acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2023.

At Gonzaga, he appeared in 102 games (39 starts), averaging 12.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 19.7 minutes from 2016-19. He achieved 4 double-doubles, and was a 2018-19 Consensus First Team All-American, Julius Erving Award winner, WCC Player of the Year, and All-WCC First Team Selection.

Rui is the first Japanese-born player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. He led Meisei High School to a second straight winter All-Japan High School Tournament title, averaging 28.0 points in 5 games. He is the only Japanese player invited to play in the Jordan Brand Classic’s international game at the Barclays Center in 2015. He appeared in 3 games for Team Japan in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and at the 2024 Olympic Games he averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 32.3 minutes for Japan.
