The tribute honors Rick Adelman’s immense impact on Rip City as one of the most influential figures in franchise history.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers will honor late Rip City legend and Hall of Famer Rick Adelman with a band on their jerseys throughout the 2026-27 season, the team announced today. Adelman passed away on June 1, 2026, at the age of 79. On December 15, when the Denver Nuggets visit Moda Center, the organization will recognize and celebrate Adelman’s impact on Rip City and the game of basketball with special elements throughout the night.
The tribute honors Adelman’s immense impact on Rip City and the world of basketball across generations as one of the most influential figures in franchise history. Rick was a member of the inaugural 1970 team and integral coach throughout the 80s and 90s, guiding the team to Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992. His basketball brilliance helped shape multiple eras of Trail Blazers basketball, earning the respect and admiration of the basketball community and cementing his legacy. His thoughtful leadership, integrity, and kindness had a profound impact on all those around him on and off the court.
