
Patrick Ewing is the Knicks’ all-time franchise leader in playoff games played.
The New York Knicks have made the playoffs 45 times in their franchise history and have won two championships along the way. Let’s highlight their top five all-time leaders in playoff games played.
1. Patrick Ewing, 135 Games
The Knicks selected Ewing with the first pick in the 1985 Draft. He made the All-Star team and was named Rookie of the Year in his first season, averaging 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. He made a total of 11 All-Star teams and finished inside the top five in MVP voting six times with the Knicks. Ewing made it to the NBA Finals in the 1993-94 season, but the Knicks lost in seven games to the Rockets. Across his 135 career playoff games with the franchise, Ewing averaged 20.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.
2. Charles Oakley, 113 Games
Oakley spent three seasons with the Bulls before joining the Knicks for the 1988-89 season. He then spent the next 10 seasons with the franchise. In those 10 seasons, he played all 82 games four times. He made his lone All-Star team in 1993-94 and advanced to the NBA Finals in that same season. Over his 113 career playoff games with the Knicks, Oakley averaged 10.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
3. Bill Bradley, 95 Games
The Knicks selected Bradley with the second pick in the 1965 Draft. He made his debut in the 1967-68 season, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting. He played his entire career with the Knicks and made the All-Star team during the 1972-73 season. He won two NBA championships with the franchise and averaged 12.9 points across his 95 career playoff games.
4. Walt Frazier, 93 Games
The Knicks selected Frazier with the fifth pick in the 1967 Draft. He made seven All-Star teams with the franchise and has six seasons in which he averaged at least 20.5 points per game. That helped him finish inside the top 10 in MVP voting three times. Like Bradley, Frazier was also on both championship teams for the Knicks. During their run to the 1972-73 title, Frazier averaged 21.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.2 assists. Over his 93 career playoff games, Frazier averaged 20.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 2.1 steals.
5. John Starks, 93 Games
Starks joined the Knicks for the 1990-91 season and averaged just 19 minutes per game. He took on a more prominent role the next season, but then really hit his stride in 1992-93 when he averaged 17.5 points and 5.1 assists over 31 minutes per game. The following season, he made his only career All-Star team. Starks moved to a bench role for the 1996-97 season and did it so well that he won the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Starks was a member of the 1993-94 team that made a run to the NBA Finals. Across his 93 career playoff games with the Knicks, Starks averaged 14.5 points, 4.2 assists and 1.9 3-pointers.
