NBA DFS core plays
Tyrese Maxey (PG – PHI)
- DraftKings: $9,500
- FanDuel: $8,900
Tyrese Maxey was on fire Monday night, dropping 43 points on the Orlando Magic in an upset victory at home. He hit 15-of-32 from the field, 4-of-11 from behind the 3-point line and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, while adding eight assists, four rebounds, a steal and just one turnover in his 42 minutes.
Washington has allowed at least 133 points in two out of three games so far, so even while playing on no rest. There is an opportunity for Philadelphia and Maxey to come up with a massive performance on the road.
Domantas Sabonis (C – SAC)
- DraftKings: $9,300
- FanDuel: $8,600
Domantas Sabonis missed the season opener due to a strained hamstring, but he has been making up for lost time. He made his season debut on Friday, going for 12 points and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes against the Utah Jazz. He went for 10 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals with a 3-pointer in 31 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers last time out on Sunday.
With Sabonis, you’re going to get to double-digit points, a healthy amount of rebounds and a handful of assists and steals, with the potential of a 3-pointer. At this price, especially on FanDuel, he is a solid, yet unspectacular pick.
Bam Adebayo (PF, C – MIA)
- DraftKings: $8,000
- FanDuel: $7,800
While it’s early in the season, it’s hard to ignore the opponent rank of 30th for the Hornets. Charlotte has coughed up at least 113 points in all three games to date, and the over has hit in each game.
Bam Adebayo has managed two double-doubles through three games, including 19 points with 13 rebounds in a victory over the New York Knicks last time out on Sunday. He also tacked on three assists, a steal and a 3-pointer in 38 minutes. Adebayo has averaged two 3-pointers per game so far, and he is averaging 19.3 points and 10 rebounds per game in two games so far.
NBA DFS cash game targets
Jimmy Butler III (SG – GSW)
- DraftKings: $7,800
- FanDuel: $8,000
Jimmy Butler is a strong play against the Clippers, although it’s a little concerning that the Warriors are playing a marquee game while on no rest.
Butler was good for 20 points in 31 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, hitting a very efficient 6-of-8 from the field, while banging home each of his 3-point shots. He also added five rebounds, five assists and, unfortunately, five turnovers. Before Monday’s game, though, Butler had taken extremely good care of the ball, turning it over just twice.
Norman Powell (SG – MIA)
- DraftKings: $6,900
- FanDuel: $6,900
If you’re about $1,000 short on salary, or you just prefer Norman Powell’s matchup against the lowly Hornets over Butler’s matchup against the Clippers, this is a strong play.
Powell already has two games under his belt with at least 28 points, and he had 29 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals with three triples in 32 minutes against the Knicks on Sunday. He is averaging 24 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, two steals and three 3-pointers per game.
Ivica Zubac (C – LAC)
- DraftKings: $6,900
- FanDuel: $6,200
Ivica Zubac is a strong play against the Warriors and their opponent rank of 22 on DraftKings. He has posted 30.3 fantasy points per game so far this season.
After a rough game on Friday against the Phoenix Suns, going for just eight points on a 3-of-5 shooting night in 25 minutes, Zubac bounced back with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks on 9-of-14 shooting on Sunday against the Trail Blazers in a 114-107 victory.
NBA DFS GPP targets
OG Anunoby (SF, PF – NYK)
- DraftKings: $6,300
- FanDuel: $6,400
OG Anunoby is a huge value at this price, as he showed what he is capable of doing in the opener against Cleveland. Last Wednesday, he went for 24 points and 14 rebounds for his lone double-double across three games.
Anunoby has scored at least 10 points in all three games, and he has already hit a total of 10 3-pointers through three games, while posting at least two steals in the span, too. He’ll also pick up an occasional blocked shot, too.
Mikal Bridges (SG, SF – NYK)
- DraftKings: $6,200
- FanDuel: $6,200
If you’re interested in a possible Knicks stack, it isn’t a bad idea to go with a combination of OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges. Bridges is coming off a season-high 20 points with five rebounds, four assists and three 3-pointers in Miami last time out.
In three games, Bridges is averaging 16 points per game, with at least five rebounds in every game. While he didn’t have any steals in Miami, he has picked up five steals through the three games, showing off his quick hands on defense.
Khris Middleton (PF – WAS)
- DraftKings: $5,900
- FanDuel: $5,600
Khris Middleton will get the chance to pick on a 76ers defense playing on no rest. We’ll see if he can take advantage. His scoring has been a little bit erratic, and he can sometimes get into foul trouble, but he will get you a healthy amount of points on occasion, a handful of boards, an assist or two, a steal or two and he is hit or miss on 3-pointers. Middleton might also take advantage of the fact that Joel Embiid could be sidelined due to his knee.
At the very least, you’ll simply get your money’s worth. At best, he’ll exceed salary expectations, making him a nice value. Rarely does Middleton disappoint.
NBA DFS value plays
Adem Bona (C – PHI)
- DraftKings: $4,300
- FanDuel: $4,500
If Joel Embiid is, indeed, sidelined for a second straight game, Adem Bona would be a solid play. Even if Embiid can go, Bona has a role as long as Paul George (knee) continues to miss time, too. He played a season-high 25 minutes against Orlando on Monday, going for seven points, four rebounds and an assist with three blocks.
Kon Knueppel (SF – CHA)
- DraftKings: $4,900
- FanDuel: $4,300
Kon Knueppel is a strong play in Tuesday’s game, as he makes another start with Brandon Miller (shoulder) out due to a left shoulder subluxation. The rookie out of Duke has been tremendous through three games, scoring double-digit points in all three of his first NBA games, including a high of 20 points with six rebounds and five 3-pointers in 35 minutes in Washington on Sunday. He has a total of 11 3-pointers, with at least three triples in each game.
Aaron Wiggins (PF, SF – OKC)
- DraftKings: $4,800
- FanDuel: $4,900
With Jalen Williams (wrist) continuing to sit out, Aaron Wiggins will have a larger role than usual. He has scored at least nine points in all four games to date, and he has at least one 3-pointer in each of his outings, too, while averaging 2.7 threes per contest. He should exceed DFS expectations yet again.
