At 40 years old, LeBron James and Chris Paul, cracked the top 10 in assists for the 2024-25 season.
The toughest category to find in fantasy formats is assists, which is why these players are more valuable than any position in fantasy. What’s fascinating is that we have a few big men who have cracked this list, and it’s becoming more common to see teams play through the post. It’s unclear if that will continue, but we love seeing these offenses become more versatile. Here’s a look at the top 100 leaders in total assists for the 2024-25 season.
1. Trae Young, Hawks (880 assists)
Seeing someone finish with 164 assists more than the player in second is quite the achievement. That’s how special of a playmaker Young has become, leading the league with 11.6 assists per game. That was also a career high for Young, who has led the league in total assists in three of the last four years. Jalen Johnson’s progression might take some of those next season, but Young is one of the only players in the league who’s a good bet to average double-digit assists.
2. Nikola Jokić, Nuggets (716 assists)
Jokić became the third player in NBA history to record triple-double averages, averaging 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists per game. That’s the highest assist total of Jokić’s career. He actually became the first player in NBA history to finish top 3 in points, rebounds and assists averages.
3. James Harden, Clippers (687 assists)
Harden is approaching the back end of his career, but there are not many better passers in NBA history. He has finished top 10 in assists 11 times, averaging 22.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game this year. That assist total got him up to 8,316 career assists, which ranks fourth among active players and 13th in NBA history.
4. Tyrese Haliburton, Pacers (673 assists)
Haliburton is always one of the favorites to lead the league in assists, but he’ll have to settle for fourth this year. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game. Don’t be surprised if the Pacers primary point guard returns to double-digit assists next year after doing that in 2023 and 2024.
5. Cade Cunningham, Pistons (638 assists)
The Pistons were the biggest surprise in the NBA, and Cunningham is a major reason for their success. The former top pick had a career year, averaging 26.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game. That’s what fans have been waiting to see, and it’s exciting to think this 23-year-old is only scratching the surface of what he could become.
6. Chris Paul, Spurs (605 assists)
It’s hard to believe we have a 40-year-old on this list. That is a good indication of how valuable Paul was to the Spurs this season, averaging 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. CP3 has led the league in total assists four times and ranks second in NBA history with 12,499 career assists.
7. LeBron James, Lakers (575 assists)
What are the odds of having two 40-year-olds in the top 10 in assists? LeBron has been quieting skeptics throughout his career, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists in another remarkable season. That assist total is one of the highest in LeBron’s career but we could see a small drop-off next season after LA acquired Luka Dončić at the trade deadline. James still ranks fourth in NBA history with 11,584 assists.
8. Devin Booker, Suns (529 assists)
Booker has been known as one of the best scorers throughout his career, but finishing eighth in total assists shows how much he’s grown as a leader. Booker became the Suns’ primary playmaker this season, averaging a career-best 7.1 assists per game. He also added 25.6 points and 4.1 rebounds to an absurd season-long stat line.
9. Darius Garland, Cavaliers (506 assists)
The Cavaliers had the best record in the Eastern Conference, and Garland’s breakout season is a major reason why. The Cavs point guard averaged 20.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.2 steals on 47 percent shooting. It’s the sixth straight season that Garland has averaged 6.1 assists per game, and he’s only getting better at 25-years-old.
10. Josh Giddey, Bulls (503 assists)
Giddey was the primary ball-handler for the Bulls this season, averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game. Those were nearly triple-double averages in the second half of the season when Giddey took over this offense, and that career-high assist total might climb if he continues to play that role going forward.
