Mike Gminski (1959)

“G-Man” was one of the best players in the country coming out of Duke, and he became the seventh overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft as a result. He spent his first eight seasons with the New Jersey Nets, averaging at least 16 points per game in his final three seasons with the team.

That trajectory led to a career year in his debut season with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging a career-high 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He joined the Charlotte Hornets for four years after that before officially retiring with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1994. Gminski ended up playing 14 years in the NBA, averaging 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
