What are three key storylines to know entering this matchup?
1. The Wagner Bros — Moe is back, Franz is questionable: In Sunday’s win over the Pelicans, Moe Wagner suited up for the Magic for the first time since tearing his ACL in December 2024. In his first action in 387 days, Wagner posted eight points, two rebounds and two assists in 10 minutes off the bench.
Moe Wagner is one of three German players on the Magic roster — along with his younger brother, Franz, and Tristan da Silva — who have all played for the German national team. The Wagner brothers helped Germany win the 2023 FIBA World Cup, while Franz and da Silva were part of last summer’s EuroBasket title run.
“I’ll get back as soon as I can. Hopefully that’ll be in Berlin,” said Franz Wagner, who has been out since Dec. 7 with a high left ankle sprain. “Regardless of whether I play or not, it’s going to be a true full-circle moment for Moe and I, growing up and going as little kids to that gym to watch the pros play. Playing an NBA game there is pretty special for us, and we’re going to appreciate the opportunity.”
2. Bane, Grizzlies reunite in Europe: The Magic and Grizzlies did not wait until the 2025 NBA Finals were over to begin the summer of player movement. They agreed to a trade in mid-June that sent Desmond Bane to Orlando for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony (who was waived and now plays in Milwaukee) and Draft picks. The teams have yet to meet this season, so these two games in Europe — beginning with the NBA Berlin Game — will mark the first time Bane and Caldwell-Pope face their former squads.
3. All-Stars on a global stage: In addition to welcoming home three of their own in the Wagner brothers and da Silva, fans will also see a trio of young All-Stars in Orlando’s Paolo Banchero (2024) and Memphis’ Ja Morant (’22, ’23) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (’23, ’25). The Magic (22-18) are sixth in the East and the Grizzlies (17-22) are 10th in the West, which means both teams will be eager to put on a show for a new audience and get every win they can muster as the NBA season’s midpoint nears.
