LAS VEGAS — The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers, 84-68, in the NBA 2K25 Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Friday.
A 20-13 first quarter allowed Charlotte to maintain the lead for the final three frames, completing their blowout win behind a 25-8 third quarter. They got their lead up to 26 points at times, leading by at least 15 points for the final 13 minutes. The Hornets shot 43.5% from the field (30-for-69) and 46.2% from 3-point range (12-for-26), while the Blazers shot 32.9% from the field (27-for-82) and 14.6 percent from long distance (6-for-41). Charlotte also out-assisted Portland, 24-14.
The Hornets (3-1) had a career night from Matt Morgan off the bench, scoring 36 points on 11-of-11 shooting (7-7 3PM). Jake Stephens led the starters with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Zavier Simpson provided 14 points, four rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocks.
The Trail Blazers (2-2) were led by Donovan Clingan, collecting 16 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and four blocks. Kennedy Chandler collected 15 points and seven rebounds. Bryce McGowens led the bench with 16 points and five boards, while Rayan Rupert registered seven points, four rebounds and six assists.
Both teams will close out the Summer League on Sunday against unknown opponents in consolation games.
