Posting a triple-double in a game is always a special feat. However, they really stand out in the NBA Finals. Let’s highlight the players with the most triple-doubles in NBA Finals history.
1. LeBron James – 11 Finals triple-doubles
James leads this category by a hefty margin. He has appeared in 55 Finals games and won four championships. For his career, he has averaged 28.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in the playoffs.
2. Magic Johnson – 8 Finals triple-doubles
Johnson also had plenty of lengthy playoff runs, playing in 50 Finals games. In addition to his eight triple-doubles in the Finals, Johnson won five championships. Across 190 career playoff games, he averaged 19.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 12.3 assists and 1.9 steals.
3. Draymond Green – 3 Finals triple-doubles
Green has played in 33 games in the Finals and won four championships. Over 169 career playoff games, Green has averaged 11.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks.
4. Nikola Jokić – 2 NBA Finals triple-doubles
Jokić won a title during his lone Finals run in 2023. The Nuggets defeated the Heat in five games, with Jokić posting a triple-double in two of them. That helped him be named Finals MVP. In 94 career playoff games, Jokić has averaged 27.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 7.6 assists.
5. Jimmy Butler – 2 Finals triple-doubles
Butler has appeared in 11 total Finals games, all of which came as a member of the Heat. Both of his triple-doubles came in the 2020 Finals against the Lakers, a series that the Heat lost in six games.
6. Larry Bird – 2 Finals triple-doubles
Bird played 31 games in the Finals and won three championships with the Celtics. One of his triple-doubles came in the 1981 Finals, while the other came in the 1986 Finals.
7. Walt Frazier – 2 NBA Finals triple-doubles
Frazier played 17 games in the Finals and won two championships with the Knicks. One of his triple-doubles came in the 1970 Finals against the Lakers. The other was in the 1972 Finals against the Lakers.
8. Wilt Chamberlain – 2 NBA Finals triple-doubles
Chamberlain appeared in 35 Finals games. He won one championship with the 76ers and another with the Lakers. Both of his Finals triple-doubles came in 1967 against the Warriors.
9. Bob Cousy – 2 NBA Finals triple-doubles
Cousy played 42 career games in the Finals. He won six championships in his career, including five straight from 1959 through 1963. One of his triple-doubles came in the 1958 Finals against the Hawks. The other was in the 1959 Finals against the Lakers.
10. Bill Russell – 2 NBA Finals triple-doubles
With the Celtics being so successful during his tenure, Russell played 70 games in the Finals. He won 11 championships along the way. His first Finals triple-double came in 1962 versus the Lakers. The other was in 1965 against the Lakers.
