Robertson played for the Kings franchise when they were known as the Cincinnati Royals, who selected him with the first pick in the 1960 Draft. In Game 1 of the 1963 Eastern Division Finals against the Celtics, Robertson exploded for 43 points in a three-point win. He shot 17-for-25 from the field and 9-for-12 from the free throw line. He also finished with a triple-double, posting 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

After scoring 43 points in Game 1, Robertson added another 43 in Game 7 of the same series against the Celtics. He went 11-for-24 from the field and 21-for-22 from the free throw line, finishing with six rebounds and six assists. No other player on the Royals scored more than 19, while Sam Jones of the Celtics more than matched Robertson with 47 points. Boston won the game, 142-131.

The Royals faced the 76ers in the 1965 Eastern Division Semifinals. After dropping Game 1, Robertson led a Game 2 win with 40 points in 48 minutes. He shot 13-for-19 from the field and made all 14 of his free throw attempts. Though he only had four rebounds, he chipped in 13 assists. The Royals ultimately lost the series in four games.
