Shaquille O’Neal and Vlade Divac each earn a spot on the Lakers’ all-time blocks list.
The Lakers franchise has made 64 total playoff appearances and have won 17 championships. Let’s look at their career leaders list and highlight their top five players in blocks.
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2,694 Blocks)
Abdul-Jabbar played 20 seasons in the NBA, the last 14 of which came with the Lakers. He made 19 All-Star teams during his career and was named league MVP six times. Three of those MVP Awards came as a member of the Lakers. Abdul-Jabbar led the league in blocks three times with the Lakers, including two seasons in which he averaged at least 4.0 blocks. In 1,093 career games with the Lakers, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 2.5 blocks. He also averaged 3.4 blocks per game as a member of the Bucks.
2. Shaquille O’Neal (1,278 Blocks)
O’Neal played for six different teams in the NBA. After four excellent seasons with the Magic to begin his career, O’Neal played the next eight seasons with the Lakers. He was named the MVP of the 1999-00 season and finished inside the top 10 in MVP voting in each of his eight seasons with the Lakers. He also finished inside the top 10 for the Defensive Player of the Year Award three times with the team. While O’Neal never led the league in blocks, he averaged 2.8 blocks per game as a member of the Lakers.
3. Elden Campbell (1,022 Blocks)
The Lakers selected Campbell with the 27th pick in the 1990 Draft. After not playing much during his rookie season, Campbell would appear in at least 73 games in each of his final seven seasons with the Lakers. His best season in terms of rejections was when he averaged 2.6 blocks in the 1995-96 season. He also averaged 2.0 blocks during the 1991-92 campaign. Campbell would go on to play for a total of six teams during his career, which included him averaging 1.7 blocks across 618 games with the Lakers.
4. Vlade Divac (834 Blocks)
The Lakers picked Divac 26th overall in the 1989 Draft. He played in all 82 games in three of his first four seasons in the league, and appeared in fewer than 79 games just one time during his first stint with the Lakers. During the 1994-95 season, Divac averaged 2.2 blocks per game, which would be one of two seasons in his career in which he averaged at least 2.0 blocks. After his first stint with the Lakers, Divac went on to play for the Hornets and Kings before returning to play 15 games for the Lakers in the 2004-05 season.
5. Anthony Davis (674 Blocks)
AD held down the paint during five-plus seasons with the Lakers after coming over from the Pelicans in 2019. He averaged more than 2.0 blocks on four occasions in Los Angeles, setting an exemplary standard. He made the all-NBA Defensive First Team in 2024, finishing fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting that season.
