The Charlotte Hornets announced today that LaMelo Ball will undergo arthroscopic surgery to address a right ankle impingement. Additionally, the fifth-year guard will have a minor procedure on his right wrist. Ball is listed as out for tonight’s game against the Toronto Raptors and will miss the remainder of the season. Ball is expected to make a full recovery and have a complete off-season regimen of work, returning to full basketball activity within four to six weeks. Additional updates on his status will be provided as appropriate.

Ball recorded 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 47 outings this season. He is one of 10 players this year to average 25.0 points and 5.0 assists per game, and he leads the NBA in fourth quarter points (7.8). He erupted for a career-high 50 points, five 3-pointers, five rebounds and 10 assists at Milwaukee (Nov. 23), becoming the ninth player in NBA history to notch 50-5-10 and five 3s in a game.
Ball was originally selected by the Hornets in the first round (third overall) of the 2020 NBA Draft, and he holds career averages of 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 231 contests (211 starts) over five seasons. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in triple-doubles (10) and he ranks fifth in franchise history in both 3-pointers (705) and assists (1,710). Ball was named the 2020-21 NBA Rookie of the Year and earned his first All-Star selection of his career in 2021-22.
