Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have led the Celtics to a historic road record.
The Boston Celtics made history.
Joe Mazzulla’s squad set a new franchise record with 33 road wins — just one shy of the NBA record.
It’s clear the Celtics have bigger goals in mind. Wednesday’s game was the second leg of a back-to-back in the final days of the regular season. There’s not much to read into the loss, as Boston was without its six best players. Still, they capped the night with a nice historical note by breaking the franchise mark.
Sure, the 2024-25 Celtics won’t share the record with the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors for most road wins in a single season (34), but Boston’s 33 victories away from TD Garden set a new team-best. That Warriors team won 34 on the road but lost in the 2016 NBA Finals to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. This year’s Celtics team is clearly focused on winning banner number 19.
The Celtics ended the 2024-25 regular season with a 33-8 road record, setting a new franchise-best road winning percentage (.805). The previous record was 32 wins, set by the 1972-73 and 1974-75 Celtics, led by John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, and Jo Jo White.
Boston’s 33 road wins tie the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls for the second-most in NBA history. That Bulls team won 72 games and the first of three straight titles under superstar Michael Jordan and head coach Phil Jackson.
Boston’s .805 road win percentage is tied for the third-best in NBA history, matching the 1995-96 Bulls. The only two teams with better marks are the 2015-16 Warriors (34-7, .829) and the 1971-72 Lakers (31-7, .816) — both of which went on to win the NBA Championship.
The Celtics won 23 of their 33 road games by double digits. A deep playoff run by this group seems likely. Coach Joe Mazzulla now holds a career record of 180-64 heading into Friday night’s game at home against the Hornets. Boston has already clinched the second seed in the East for the 2025 playoffs.
