Amen Thompson averaged career highs in points, assists and steals for the Rockets in 2025-26.
The Houston Rockets locked in a key part of an emerging young core Thursday, agreeing to a five-year, $208 million rookie-scale extension with Amen Thompson, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Rockets made the deal official later on Thursday afternoon.
The 23-year-old forward continued to develop his game in 2025-26, averaging career highs in points (18.3), assists (5.3) and steals (1.5) while leading the NBA in minutes played. The No. 4 pick from the 2023 NBA Draft, Thompson has established himself as one of the league’s premier defenders, earning a First Team All-Defense nod in 2024-25.

Year over year, he’s improved in every facet of his game, and we know his best basketball is ahead of him.”
The Rockets secure Thompson as a long-term centerpiece on a team that returns much of its talent from last season after finishing fifth in the Western Conference. Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun will lead the way with Thompson for Houston, while offseason additions Marcus Smart and Bogdan Bogdanović and a healthy Fred VanVleet look to help the team take the next step.
