
The Wizards selected John Wall 1st overall in the 2010 NBA Draft.
The NBA lottery was instituted for the 1985 Draft. The Washington Wizards have been a regular within the lottery since it was instituted. Let’s highlight each lottery selection that has been made by the team in their history.
Alex Sarr – 2024 (2nd Overall)
Sarr started all 67 games that he played in his rookie season. He averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.
Jarace Walker – 2023 (8th Overall)
Walker was traded to the Pacers in a three-team trade that also included the Suns. He has appeared in 108 games over two seasons with the Pacers.
Johnny Davis – 2022 (10th Overall)
Davis has appeared in 112 games over three seasons with the Wizards. For his career, he has averaged 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
Deni Avdija – 2020 (9th Overall)
Avdija played four seasons with the Wizards, averaging 9.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He was traded to the Trail Blazers before the 2024-25 season.
Rui Hachimura – 2019 (9th Overall)
Hachimura averaged 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds across 177 games with the Wizards. He was traded to the Lakers during the 2022-23 season.
Otto Porter Jr. – 2013 (3rd Overall)
Porter Jr. made four trips to the playoffs while a member of the Wizards. Over 384 regular season games, he averaged 10.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals.
Bradley Beal – 2012 (3rd Overall)
Beal finished third in Rookie of the Year voting in 2012-13. Over 11 seasons with the Wizards, he made three All-Star teams and averaged 22.1 points per game.
Jan Veselý – 2011 (6th Overall)
Veselý played 162 career games in the NBA, 141 of which came with the Wizards. His best performance came in his rookie season when he averaged 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
John Wall – 2010 (1st Overall)
Wall finished second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2010-11. He made five All-Star teams with the Wizards, averaging 19.0 points and 9.2 assists over 573 games.
Devin Harris – 2004 (5th Overall)
Harris was traded to the Mavericks on draft day. The Wizards also sent Christian Laettner and Jerry Stackhouse to the Mavericks in the deal for Antawn Jamison.
Jarvis Hayes – 2003 (10th Overall)
Hayes spent four seasons with the Wizards, averaging 8.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Jared Jeffries – 2002 (11th Overall)
Jeffries spent the first four seasons of his career with the Wizards, averaging 6.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. After leaving the Wizards, he also played for the Knicks, Rockets and Trail Blazers.
Kwame Brown – 2001 (1st Overall)
Brown played four seasons with the Wizards and played for a total of seven franchises during his career. With the Wizards, he averaged 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Richard Hamilton – 1999 (7th Overall)
Hamilton played three seasons with the Wizards before leaving for the Pistons. In his final season with the Wizards, he averaged 20.0 points per game.
Rasheed Wallace – 1995 (4th Overall)
Wallace averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in his lone season with Washington. Following his rookie season, he was traded to the Trail Blazers.
Juwan Howard – 1994 (5th Overall)
Howard finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting in 1994-95. He made his lone career All-Star team the following season. Over 464 games with the Wizards, he averaged 18.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Calbert Cheaney – 1993 (6th Overall)
Cheaney averaged at least 10.6 points in each of his first five seasons in the NBA. Over 424 games with the Wizards, he averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 rebounds.
Tom Gugliotta – 1992 (6th Overall)
Gugliotta averaged 15.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.0 steals over 165 games with the Washington Bullets. He was traded to the Warriors during the 1994-95 season.
Tom Hammonds – 1989 (9th Overall)
Hammonds played three seasons for the Bullets. In 1991-92, he had the best season of his career by averaging 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Harvey Grant – 1988 (12th Overall)
Grant played seven total seasons with Washington that included two separate stints with the team. Over 508 games with the franchise, he averaged 10.7 points and 4.6 rebounds.
Muggsy Bogues – 1987 (12th Overall)
Bogues only logged 21 minutes per game during his rookie season. He was then traded to the Hornets during the subsequent offseason.
John Williams – 1986 (12th Overall)
Williams appeared in 293 games over five seasons with the Bullets. He averaged 12.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists with the franchise.
Kenny Green – 1985 (12th Overall)
Green played 60 career games in the NBA, 20 of which came with the Wizards. He did not start any of the 20 games, averaging 11 minutes off the bench.
