
The 76ers selected Allen Iverson 1st overall in the 1996 NBA Draft.
The NBA lottery was instituted for the 1985 Draft. The Philadelphia 76ers have landed some stars through the lottery over the years. Let’s highlight each lottery selection that the team has made.
Mikal Bridges – 2018 (10th Overall)
Bridges was selected 10th overall by the 76ers and traded on draft day to the Suns. He has since gone on to have a successful career with stops in Phoenix, Brooklyn and New York.
Markelle Fultz – 2017 (1st Overall)
Fultz appeared in only 33 games over two seasons with the 76ers. He has since played for the Magic and Kings.
Ben Simmons – 2016 (1st Overall)
Simmons won the Rookie of the Year award and made three All-Star teams with the 76ers. Across 275 games with the team, he averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds 7.7 assists and 1.7 steals.
Jahlil Okafor – 2015 (3rd Overall)
Okafor averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game during his rookie season. He was later traded to the Nets during the 2017-18 season.
Elfrid Payton – 2014 (10th Overall)
Payton was traded on draft day to the Magic for Dario Šarić, a 2015 second-round draft pick and a 2018 first-round draft pick.
Joel Embiid – 2014 (3rd Overall)
Embiid has made seven All-Star teams and led the league in scoring two times with the 76ers. He won the Kia NBA MVP award in 2023.
Michael Carter-Williams – 2013 (11th Overall)
Carter-Williams averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.9 steals in his first season to win the Rookie of the Year award. The following season, he was traded to the Bucks.
Evan Turner – 2010 (2nd Overall)
Turner’s best season with the 76ers was in 2012-13. He appeared in all 82 games that season, averaging 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He was later traded to the Pacers during the 2013-14 season.
Thaddeus Young – 2007 (12th Overall)
Young finished third in the voting for Sixth Man of the Year with the 76ers in 2010-11. Across 516 regular-season games with the 76ers, he averaged 13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals.
Thabo Sefolosha – 2006 (13th Overall)
Sefolosha was traded to the Bulls on draft day for Rodney Carney, a 2007 second-round draft pick and cash.
Andre Iguodala – 2004 (9th Overall)
Iguodala finished in fourth place in Rookie of the Year voting in 2004-05. Over 615 regular season games with the 76ers, he averaged 15.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals.
Larry Hughes – 1998 (8th Overall)
Hughes played 100 regular season games for the 76ers before being traded to the Warriors. He played for eight total teams during his time in the NBA.
Keith Van Horn – 1997 (2nd Overall)
Van Horn was traded to the Nets on draft day in an eight-player trade. He played for five teams during his career, including a return to the 76ers for the 2002-03 season.
Allen Iverson – 1996 (1st Overall)
Iverson won the Rookie of the Year award in 1996-97 and the MVP award in 2000-01. He led the league in scoring four times while playing for the 76ers and made seven All-Star teams.
Jerry Stackhouse – 1995 (3rd Overall)
Stackhouse averaged 19.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in 1995-96, which helped him finish fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting. He was eventually traded to the Pistons in December of 1997.
Sharone Wright – 1994 (6th Overall)
Wright averaged 11.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks during his rookie season. During the 1995-96 campaign, he was traded to the Raptors.
Shawn Bradley – 1993 (2nd Overall)
Bradley averaged 10.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks during his rookie season. He was traded to the Nets during the 1995-96 season after playing in 143 regular season games with the 76ers.
Clarence Weatherspoon – 1992 (9th Overall)
Weatherspoon played 448 career games with the 76ers, averaging 15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. After playing for the 76ers, he also spent time with the Warriors, Heat, Cavaliers, Knicks and Rockets.
Charles Smith – 1988 (3rd Overall)
Smith was traded to the Clippers on draft day for Hersey Hawkins and a 1989 first-round draft pick.
