The 20-year-old Whitmore has shown promise in limited minutes since being drafted 20th overall in 2023, averaging 10.8 points on 44.9% shooting in 17.4 minutes per game across his two-year career.
The 6-foot-7 forward replaces some of the scoring punch lost after Washington reportedly agreed to deal last season’s leading scorer, Jordan Poole, to New Orleans.
The Rockets, meanwhile, regain a pair of second-round picks after trading five of them to Phoenix in the blockbuster deal to acquire Kevin Durant from Phoenix. Trading Whitmore also frees up a logjam of forward talent that still features Durant, Amen Thompson, recently extended Jabari Smith Jr. and soon-to-be-signed free agent Dorian Finney-Smith.
