Reports: Anthony Davis traded to Wizards in 8-player deal

Washington reportedly adds the 10-time All-Star in a trade with Dallas.

Veteran big Anthony Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists over 20 games this season.

Ten-time All-Star Anthony Davis is reportedly headed to Washington in an 8-player trade with Dallas, according to multiple reports.

Washington receives:

  • Anthony Davis
  • Jaden Hardy
  • D’Angelo Russell
  • Dante Exum

Dallas receives:

  • Khris Middleton
  • AJ Johnson
  • Malaki Branham
  • Marvin Bagley III
  • Two future first-round picks
  • Three future second-round picks

Davis has been out of the lineup since mid-January after suffering a torn ligament in his left hand. The 10-time All-Star won’t need surgery on the injury, and still has a few weeks remaining on the original four-to-six week timeline from when he was first hurt.

In adding Davis, the Wizards have assembled a formidable core after acquiring All-Star guard Trae Young last month. Young will be out through the All-Star break with a sprained right knee and bruised quadriceps.

Once fully healthy, Davis and Young will be the stars on a team that features young big man Alex Sarr, young talent like Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington and Bilal Coubialy and standout rookie Tre Johnson.

Dallas is building around star rookie Cooper Flagg with this move, clearing up more time in the frontcourt for him. All of the players Dallas acquired will be free agents this summer as it decides what to do about the return of Kyrie Irving.

Russell has a player option for next season and Hardy is under contract until 2026-27 (he has a team option for 2027-28), but Exum will be a free agent this summer.

Irving, a nine-time All-Star guard, tore the ACL in his left knee early last March. The rough timeline for Irving’s return was sometime after the first of the year this season.
