Truck Robinson averaged a franchise-best 15.7 rebounds per game in the 1078 season.
The Jazz have had some of the league’s best rebounders and defenders suit up for them over the years. Here’s a look at the five best rebounding performances over a single season in Utah Jazz history.
Truck Robinson – 1978, 15.7 RPG
Robinson’s 1978 season stands out as the best rebounding season by any Jazz player by a decent margin as no other member of the team has scratched 15.0 RPG in a single campaign. His 15.7 rebounds per game that season helped fuel his first and only All-Star nod in his 11-year career. It also won him the rebounding title that season. Robinson also averaged 22.7 points per game that season, and those all-around contributions led to First Team All-NBA recognition.
Rudy Gobert – 2022, 14.7 RPG
The ‘Stifle Tower’ takes up the remaining four spots on our list of best rebounding seasons in Jazz history. Gobert’s 14.7 rebounds per game stand as the high watermark in his productive career and earned him the first rebounding title of his career. He added 15.6 points and 2.1 blocks per game that season en route to being named an All-Star and earning Defensive Player of the Year consideration.
Rudy Gobert – 2021, 13.5 RPG
2021 may go down as Gobert’s best season. He averaged 14.3 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game to win Defensive Player of the Year and garner some MVP votes as well. Gobert helped the Jazz have a top five defense that year in terms of defensive efficiency, and the team would go on to make it to the Western Conference Semifinals.
Rudy Gobert – 2020, 13.5 RPG
The ‘French Rejection’ earned the first of three consecutive All-Star nods during the 2020 season. Gobert’s 13.5 rebounds per game trailed just behind Atlanta’s Clint Capela for the league lead, and he also finished with the most total rebounds in the league. Gobert’s contributions didn’t stop there as he also led the league in total blocks and field goal percentage.
Rudy Gobert – 2019, 12.9 RPG
Coming off his first Defensive Player of the Year award the season prior, Gobert continued to elevate his game in 2019. He pulled down 12.9 rebounds per game and averaged a career-best 15.9 points as well. Though Andre Drummond took down the rebounding title that year, Gobert ended up winning his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award and was Third Team All-NBA.
