Hornets trade for Tyus Jones, then reportedly trade him again

Tyus Jones, an 11-year NBA veteran, will reportedly head to Dallas after Charlotte aquired him.

Guard Tyus Jones is averaging 3 points and 2.4 assists per game this season.

Charlotte added another player to its backcourt before moving him on to another locale.

The Hornets acquired Tyus Jones and a pair of second-round picks from the Orlando Magic for cash considerations on Wednesday, but then reportedly moved Jones again. Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Jones is heading to the Dallas Mavericks for forward Malaki Branham.

Originally, the Charlotte-Orlando trade worked out with the Magic sending Jones to the Hornets for cash considerations.

This season, Jones is averaging 3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Magic as his role was scaled back from his starting gig in 2024-25.

Charlotte has been busy at the trade deadline, reportedly adding the Chicago Bulls’ Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. in a separate trade. The Hornets also added forward Ousmane Dieng from the Oklahoma City Thunder for center Mason Plumlee.

Jones moves to Dallas, where the Mavs are building their team behind star rookie Cooper Flagg. Dallas moved on from big man Anthony Davis, moving him to the Washington Wizards in a blockbuster trade on Wednesday.
